I have my doubts that we will ever see a Cummins in a Ford pickup. As nice as that would be. I've been around trucks and I've never met anyone who is too fond of a Volvo truck, but I do more off highway truck work then I do highway. Caterpillar would be the best in my opinion, if they started making a pickup engine that made good power and was reliable(like most of their Tractor Trailer Engines) they would have a winning combination. I've heard the reason Cat doesn't do pickup engines is that they could not produce enough engines. I'm interested to see how good the 4.4L Diesel going in the F150 is.

All the smaller CAT engines that I have ever had any experience with are garbage. We have an ASV skid steer with a CAT in it, which is the same as a perkins, one makes the other, and it is an absolute pile of garbage. 2 starters, 2 alternators, 2 sets of injectors, an injector pump, the whole glowplug system, and about 15 fanbelts in 1000 Hours. The dealer refuses to sell anymore after all the complications with these machines. I don't think that CAT could just jump into the truck market without about 5 years of working bugs out of their smaller engines. Just look how word has spread about the 6L PSD's and all of their problems...cat would be just as bad

Ya I also heard it will be an "inside job" for the new Ford Diesel. Also heard somewhere that they may be using the Bluetec technology. Any truth to this?
(the Bluetec rumor was awhile ago... I am just curious. It should be the cleanest burning engine by 2010)
