I'm sure Dodge might have something to say about a Cummins going into the competition. I thought is was an Volvo developed engine that is supposed to be going into the F150?
Anyone?

yes ford does own cummins but that is not the motor that is going into the f150. that much power would tear an f150 apart. dodge is not going to be using the cummins much longer because there contract with ford runs out soon and they are going to be switching to a german made diesel by mercedes. as for the cummins nobody is sure what is going to happen with it. but yes there is supposed to be a smaller diesel going into the f150 soon. this is all info given to me when i used to work for ford about a year ago so it may not all still be correct.

Too many rumours. The Ford owns Cummins rumour is laughable because it was the early 90's when Ford dumped their stock and yet people still believe it.

The press releases I have seen mention the Lion 4.4L V8 Turbodiesel, it is supposed to based off of a Land Rover engine.

....it's the 4.4 litre v8 diesel that is currently an option in the European Range Rovers....the Range Rovers sold in Canada/US only have the two
v8 gas engine choices.
I like the idea of a Caterpillar developed diesel or two for f-150 and/or superduty.....they could market the living hell out of that. What's the smallest CAT diesel they made?....wasn't it the '3208' ?...still close to a 1000lb chunk of iron i bet.....oh well....

rumors can be real
I worked for Ford for 6yrs. in assy supervision. I've meet some people, some with insight and some with...well let's say nearsight. First it's Cummins and next, and here's the rub, product development is a dynamic process consuming years, always changing, involving the discisions of many. Powertrain evolution is no different. The marriage of big names gets everyone passionate. Bids go out each year and all are invited. Faces meet at pre-bids and personalities bond and others repel. Good concepts both fall and are promoted. Strong contenders are many, but I feel the best match will be the one that has no strong ties to the other two of the "big three". Volvo is part of the Ford family, has one of the strongest and most dependable desiel power plants in the world (ask any dispassionate bigrig mechanic). Until the handshake, no one will know what will be the first desiel in an F150 or when. Ford's truck group's engineering staff are some of the most creative and brilliant minds. I believe that when we do see the F150 desiel, It will bring a platform change with it, lower bed rails, ss brake lines, and a 205K+ avg. life span (just some of my dreams). P.S. most of the Ford minds read these forums.
