Unhappy No word on 6.2L

So Dodge now has 380 hp/Hemi, GM/Toyota already there... and we won't say what we have? Maybe cause its so damn embarassing... Not one word about a larger V8. Yes Diesel in 2010, yes eco boost but that is proabbly just the V6. I'm sad today. I've said no larger V and I'd have to go to GM, or now maybe Dodge? Hope not.

Questions/observations I had:
- I hope the 17" and 20" optional wheels on the FX4 look better that the 18s on these pics!
- Will the 700 watt Sony only be available with the nav pkg, Hope not!
- What isincrease in overall height vs 08's.
- I assume rear seat back is fixed even thought there is more room?
- Frame is lighter (yet mroe rigid)... this has to help acceleration and MPG.
- I thought by now they'd go to an auto 4wd system.... Nice up north with icy roads.

We already knew that from the start! The 6.2 will be available as little as 6 months after the truck debuts (according to Igor). The truck with the significantly improved 5.4 tows and hauls more, so I don't care if the other guys have 25 more hp or whatever they have.

This sucks! If ford does not offer the 6.2 then it looks like I will be buying a dodge. And if some people are happy with having less HP then good for them! But HP sales!!

We have been living with 80hp less for a while now, though I haven't seen the hp ratings for the 09' yet.

Still have the best selling truck, so it can't be all bad. But I do think that being the weakest powered full-size truck will start to catch up with us, especially since truck/suv sales are tanking right now.

The 6-speed automatic will help greatly, but a range topper to compete against the near 400hp Hemi, Toyota, and Chevy will be important.

Ford may have the best selling truck for forever but the numbers are droping every year this year they didn't even sale 700,000 and it was just a few year ago they were nere 1,000,000 so I think some people want more HP and are looking at other trucks to get it.

just a thought........dont truck buyers look at what a truck is capable of towing/hauling before purchase. hp is great dont get me wrong. but if they make this truck lighter safer and stronger than the competion.......what is the problem if the guy with a chevy says he has more horsepower? your new 09 f150 might be able to tow more weight!

im ordering one....................

Because in some peoples mind horsepower equates to ***** length. From what I have observed on this board ones lust for horsepower is often inversely proportional to intelligence. Since members ages are not shown I can only guess about that part. However, I would surmise that the more someone whines about only having 300Hp the more likely they are under the age of 25.

hey i don't whine that much about how the F-150 isn't fast and im under 25.......but seriously people as much as i look forward to the 6.2L Boss i still know that the others guys only have HP and thats it we beat them in everything else, why would the slowest truck on the market be the best selling name plate?.....cause it gets the job done better than the rest

IMO, this whole HP war between the companys is just stupid! Heck my work truck, 94 F150 4X4 with 300-6 and less than 200hp, will tow anything that my 04 F150 with 5.4L will tow. Granted the 94 may not get there at fast, but it does the job great, not because of the HP, its because of the truck behind the motor and is still going very strong at over 160,000 very hard working miles. Honestly, why does anyone need 400hp? Unless they are using it as a drag truck, you dont need it, plain and simple. IMO, the other companys are just upping the HP to try and make up for how bad their truck really are. Granted I wouldn't turn down 400 in a F150, but it is by no means a deal breaker.

Granted yes sales are down from what they where in 97, but then there was only Ford, GM, and Dodge for lgith duty trucks. Now in 08 there is Ford, GM, Dodge, Toyota and Nissan. SO there are two more companys with about the same number of buyers, of course sales are going to go down.

Well let me say that i'm 43 years old and I have no problem with ''***** length''!! I just want HP plan and simple!! Now if your truck does everthing you want then good for you, but there are ALOT of people that want more HP so get over it!!

It's amazing the excuses we come up with to justify our underpowered trucks.

Do you not think that more HP and Tq means that the job could be done better?

There have been many times when I've been pulling my 6K lb camper that it would have been nice to have even 50 more ponies to make a merge on the highway MUCH easier and safer. I hope that's been fixed on the '09's.

.....the hp/trq numbers for the first three engines in the 2009 won't be published until the f-150 hits the presentation stage at noon today at the Detroit auto show.

It was a known quantity that the first 6.2 wouldn't show with model line debut but be later availability.
