yeah the commercials are pretty cool, but theyre kinda missing the boat on the "all new" buisness, trying to make people with 04+ feel like theyre outdated.... when all the real difference is minor exterior changes, and i by no means am an engineer but i dont see how its possible to get more power with less gas??

it doesnt have more power they just changed the numbers, kinda like how the upped the tow rating on the 08s without changing anything at all.

The biggest contributor to the better fuel economy is the 6 speed transmission.

Also, it weighs less due to ultra-high-strength steel , has better aerodynamics (best in class), has the deceleration fuel shutoff, etc.

The more power part comes from changes made to the engine:

"Both the 5.4-liter and 4.6-liter 3-valve V-8 engines utilize open valve injection. This unique feature improves the air/fuel charge conditions in the combustion chamber, allowing greater spark advance at higher loads and engine speeds. This delivers increased horsepower during towing and higher rpm operations, lower emissions and more efficient use of fuel."

Not exactly the same, for 2009 the 4.6 will be available as a 3 valve for the first time. I believe it's also getting variable valve timing just like the 3v 5.4 has had since '04.

There's hardly anything on the 09 which is the same as the 04-08. There's over 2000 changes between the models.

yes but i was more refering to the 5.4, the same 3v 4.6 has also been in the mustang since 2005 and explorer sport trac. so its new to the F150 but not new to Ford.

ahhhhhh, no, its not the same as the 2004-2008.

"notice how they never said it was a new feature" ahhhhhhh, the entire quote came from the press release detailing some of the 2000 changes in the 2009 models.

Here's Pickup Truck.com discussion on the new design.

"Both the 5.4L and 4.6L V8s use new ‘open valve injection’ technology. As the name suggests, open valve injection injects fuel into the cylinders while the intake valves are open (instead of closed like during conventional combustion cycles). The incoming air improves the mixture of air and fuel before the 'charge' is ignited. Ford says the result is increased horsepower during towing, higher RPMs, and an improvement in emissions from the more efficient burn."

The 2004 - 2008 models do not have open valve technology or fuel cutoff.

Did you see the Fox NFL pre-game. They actually had a 09 in studio and the nascar fox play by play guy went through the truck with Bradshaw and Strayhan. Between that and the commercials... more of a Ford infomercial than a pregame show. Awesome. I noticed how he quickly stated 21 mpg and 320 hp.... Didn't mention that 21 mpg is not with that motor that also required e85 to get that 320 hp... but hey thats advertising!

Gotto to admit the 09 Ram commercials on CBS were pretty damn good too. Both get a A+.

Please tell me your not talking about the one with explosions and people saying things like "yeah it's got all kinds of room" ???

If thats the one then that has got to be the most pointless commercial i have ever seen for a product. Just makes me laugh and shows what kind of buyer the ram artracts.
