Question Bed step, post purchase

Not that I need it, but I was curious if anyone looked into adding the side steps after-the-fact. I found a new Lariat close to what I wanted at a stellar price so I snapped it up last week. Kind of bummed it didn't have the steps, I think they are cool. Part number anyone?

You can buy them from the Ford Accessories. Probably the only place to get them at this time.

http://www.fordaccessories.com/GfaWeb/catalog.do

You may be able to find them cheaper through different Ford Accessory stores (dealers).

You can only buy the left box side step. The right one is not available as a kit. I have a 09 platinum and i ordered the left step for a 6.5 box out of a CA dealer, cheaper there (277.00) even with freight retail $371.00 part # for left side kit 6.5 box is 9L3Z-1520040-B.

Damn! That $371 is only one side? What a crock! I saw the part and looked at a couple dealers online that had it for $371.

With the profit margins on these its real brilliant that they don't offer a right side step for those who want it.

I'll be ordering an aftermarket step, the Ford step looks like it weighs 30 lbs and blocks the free flow of air behind the body panel (more drag). I think Ford put their least experienced engineer on this one.

Congrats on the new truck, I'm jealous. I'm thinking maybe next year I'll look into upgrading, but I've just gotten my truck the way I like it and I don't want to have to start all over again!

Side step question and others

When I saw those side steps advertised on a Ford TV ad my first response was, how are they going to work in snow country? Aren't they going to freeze up and be nonfunctional? Mud would also be a concern I'd think. Still wish they hadn't made those Slab Sides so tall. At least you could reach into the bed from ground level with my 1990 F150.
I see they also dropped the 4 door Reg cab configuration. So does that mean they shrunk the behind the seat room? Did they move the handle for the window crank ( XL Model?) to a more convienent place from the 04-08 models which was waaay down towards the bottom of the door? And lastly from what I see the "drive by wire" throttle lag has been fixed? Our local Ford Dealer disappeared last Sept so we no longer have an easy way to check these things out in person, so I was just wondering.

they put a longer "Main door" on it and ditched the "extra door"

Dzervits and others, im sure with a little work you could redesign the bracket and make it work on the passenger side.

the tailgate step from ford as add on after you get your truck is going to be very costly. 1022.00 for the step and then you also have to buy a new tailgate as its not the same at least as far as the parts guy could tell from the drawing. At a price like that you would think more dealers would have put them in as the option when they ordered their trucks. Since that seems to be a big seller. The 4 i looked at on the locater didnt have them as an add on.

Thanks, couldn't beleieve they'd revert back to the shorter cab. The extra doors have been a PIA anyway. BB

cab length is same on reg cab, and ext cab as the 2004-2008 trucks, and the supercrew got extended by somewhere around 6"
