So whats the news?

Im hoping that the 5.0 will be sort of a mainstream v8 for the future. I want a shortbox stx 4x2 pretty bad but I cant live with the 4 speed or the 4.6 2v for that matter. I need more power and the 2v sucks as much gas as 5.4 it seems. Ford has to get their act together with engines before they will see a dime from me.

Post My Platinum

Barittia- When did you order it comet. I been snowboarding the last 10 days and only just realised. I also agree that it's silly to wait till 2011 for a truck with a certain engine when the new models will be just around the corner. What did you order in the end?

Ordered it Friday 2/6/09
They said between 6-12 weeks for delivery.

2009 F-150 4x4 SuperCrew
Platinum Edition
145" wheelbase
Brilliant Silver exterior
Black/Brown interior
3.55 Limited-Slip
Sony NAV
Power Moonroof
Full Coverage Rubber Mats
Bed Extender
Tailgate Step

--------------------$48,145 (truck & factory options)
Bedliner
Remote Start
Molded Splash Guards

--------------------$??? (dealer options)

Total (after all rebates, excluding tax/title/reg)
--------------------$41,088

As you know, the Platinum comes with virtually everything already included, so I only listed those items I had to add to the order. The only option I did not get is the trailer brake controller. Otherwise everything I could select, I did.

I guess the big news is the HD F150. A slicked up double cab with the same ole 5.4. Im not too excited at all. Where are the new engines Ford? I dont think the 6.2 will ever see the light of day in a F150.

The Harley is cool for image buyers. They're probably saving the 6.2 for the Rapter. I don't even care about the 6.2 anymore with its supposed horrible gas mileage. The other engines will be much better and built for hauling and towing and fuel economy.

I'll give you the rest, but the EB V6 & 5.0L are going to be better for towing vs. the 6.2L? C'mon. The diesel maybe. MAYBE. But I won't even give that one up that easy. The 6.2 will more tq than all of 'em.

In the F-150 all of these engines should be better for us because the 6.2 is going to be limited to F-150 models like the Raptor which will have very limited towing and hauling capacities, a short bed and poor gas mileage.

The 6.2 should be a torque monster but will it ever make it to the F150? I would be happy with the 5.0 but Im not satisfied with the current engine offerings. Those who want and need the extra power of the 6.2 should be able to buy it as an option. Are you listening Ford?

It sounds like the 5.0 and EBv6 are going to be improvements but are they supposed to compete with the 6.2 from GM and Toyotas 5.7? Ford is getting their butts kicked royally in the engine department putting the 5.4 up against these guys. I love the Ford trucks but the engines are holding me back right now. I really wonder at times what they are thinking.

It would have been an option if the gov wasnt mandating fuel economy. What is Ford thinking? Capability, not just numbers. The F1 has the most capability while the Tundra just has hp numbers on paper and NOTHING else.

So once again: We should be happy being underpowered as we're the most capable? Dont follow. It need not be an either/or scenario.

Um, it doesnt need to be a more hp = better scenario either. if all you care about is bigger hp numbers on paper then we are underpowered. if you care more about what power really is - getting a job done and how it does the job, and not just hp numbers on a piece of paper, then we are not underpowered. be happy that we have the best truck and the new engines are coming with more power and torque to make you happy.

It could be argued that tow ratings are just numbers on a piece of paper also. GM's 6.2 under full load will walk off and leave an F150 under the same conditions. That is a fact. It might come in handy when merging into a busy highway. Toyota will do the same if the frame and tailgate stay intact. IN fact, Ford probably has the best truck with the worst engines of all manf.

My gripe is that I want a reg cab short box 4x2 and Im limited to the lowly 4.6 2v and 4 speed auto. I can get a 5.7 hemi, 5.7 yota, or a 5.3 in a chebby in that same configuration and Ford expects me to pay as much if not more? No thank you. Power does matter. If they dont cough up the 5.0 in this configuration I will buy a Chebby or Dodge. (gasp)

Let me just say I feel for those wanting a 6.2. I dont need it but fully understand why those that do.
