Roll-up tonneau with bed extender?

I was just getting ready to order a Truxedo Lo Pro QT but looking at their FAQ's I saw this:

"The TruXedo® Lo Pro QT side rails extend 3” into the bed on each side. In order to use the bed extender, it must not come within 3” of the side of the bed when rotated, or it must be able to detach from the truck, be manually rotated and re-attached."

I searched and I didn't see any replies from 09 owners. I know a few people here have the bed extender. Are any of you using a soft tonneau? If so, which one doesn't interfere with rotation of the bed extender?

Any help would be appreciated.

By your brief description, it appears to me that the cover and bed extender would work fine together as the extender tapers away from the bed at that location when rotated. I'll try and take a pic or two tomorrow with the extender in different positions and with a ruler to double-check.

Yes, the extender does swing out from the rail but the part that attaches to the bed when pivoted, does look like it would hit the rails and release lever (from the pictures I've seen of the Truxedo rails).

I'm not familiar with the cover or it's rails so pics are the best I could do for you. I rotated the exetender in the position that provided the least clearance...

CougarGuy,

I have the LowPro QT on my truck and can confirm that the bed rails to in fact protrude into the bed about 2.5". I was curious as well how the fold-up bed extender would function.... By the looks of the pics attached, it's going to be very close. Let me know if you have success.

How far does the cover release handle come down? From the pictures I've seen, I think it might hit the extender.

If I may offer a suggestion, don't go with any Tonnue that extends into the bed. Why lose the cargo space and risk the rails getting banged-up when you haul something large and heavy.
Rather, get a Tonnue that goes along the top of the bed-rails. I have a Truxedo cover that does that, is easy to install and remove, is a low profile, holds on with velcro, fits tight, and rolls-up easy. I've had it for two years in Alaska, through -50 degree Wx, and it still looks and works like new.

Just my two cents on the matter.

The cover release lever only sticks down about 1" at most... Aside from the side rails protruding/overhang into the bed, I really like the cover. Looks great and very practical to use.

I dont have an 09 truck, but i have an 09 extender and a bed cover.
I just have to disconnect the extender in the middle when i am moving it in and it will swing out to where I dont hit anything. I just measured and I also go about 3 inches into the bed so it shouldnt be any prob.

My Bestop AMP Research Bed Extender works perfectly with my Truxport roll-up tonneau cover.
