Guys who put in HID lights in the 09's

Question for the guys who added HID head and fog lights.

Did you get the adjustment issue corrected? Too low on driver side.

Do you like them? Too bright, good or bad.

Any issue with Police, D.O.T, or State Police?

Just curious. They looked great in pictures, looking for real world trial thoughts.

Thanks !

most drivers side headlights are aimed that way from the factory, to prevent glare in oncoming drivers eyes...and to light up further down the road on the pass. side. I steped into the world of HID about 3 years ago and will never go back. Granted im seeking alternative OEM methods currently (legal) and am aiming for the best light output possible via OEM projectors. However I have used many a HID kit. For the money these things are running nowdays, you cant refuse....hell of an upgrade.

As far as police...in Texas, or anywhere actually. Just dont go TOO overboard and you'll be fine. What im saying is dont go buy a 10000K, 12000K and not expect to be pulled over. Its basically blue/purple light. If you buy these you are being pulled over for a good reason! you are a hazard on the road. Get yourself a nice 4300K or 6000K kit for the headlights and foglights and call it a day. You wont regret it.

I bought my 6000k bi-xenon HID's (headlights only, no fogs for now) from the link that was posted a while ago by another member (the company name is escaping me at the moment). I will start out by saying that removing the headlight "pods" scared the hell out of me the first time, because they are clipped into the fenders and you really have to muscle them out. Installation wasn't too hard, but it was a pain to find a place to mount the ballast on the driver's side. I followed the wiring diagram but ended up having to reverse the diode and remove the extra jumper wire in order to get the hi-beams to function properly. I did have alignment issues on the driver's side, but after some poking around I found the alignment screw on the back of the headlight pod (you do have to remove the pod and adjust, then put back to check). After several tries, I was able to get it aligned properly with the passenger side and haven't had any issues with people flashing me at night. I must say that the increased visibility is WELL WORTH the $150 I paid for the kit. The stock headlights are really terrible in my opinion. As I said above, I went with the 6000k because I really hate the totally blue look. For me, 6000k is perfect with a bright white tinted ever so slightly with blue, just like many stock HID's.

Good luck

Sorry for the blurriness, these were taken with my Blackberry.

Concerned the XLT owners are ruling the poll?

I'm tempted to put HIDs in my truck when I get it but a little hesitant to start tearing into my new truck's electrical system.

How difficult was it really to get HIDs installed? I wonder if I should look into getting an aftermarket shop or mechanic to do it for me. Is it simple enough that I should be able to do this with basic DIY skills?

It was very easy. I normally don't like messing with electrical stuff either (even tho it is only 12V) but I didn't have any problems. The kit I got was basically plug and play. You pop out the old bulb and pop in the new bulb, mount the ballasts, plug in some wires and hook up one wire to the positive battery terminal (don't even have to take the positive wire off, there is a separate, smaller post to bolt accessories onto). The included instructions & diagram were pretty easy to follow, so a DIYer should have no issues. If you do, post here and we'll be happy to help

I just wanted to add that there is no cutting or splicing required. The stock electrical system remains completely intact. The positive power wire in the kit is fused as well to protect the system should any problems arise.

Can you please provide the vendor (or PM) if the mods don't like a reference.

Thanks a lot ozman. I'll look forward to doing it with the support here. I found a local shop that does HID installs and stocks kits but the only kit they have does not have Hi/Lo. $119 sounds like a steal for these things. I imagine it is the 9008 H13 Hi/Lo kit I need right?

When I started with my Kubota tractor a few years ago I had never turned a wrench before. With the help of my buddies on tractorbynet, three years into it and I'm doing all my own servicing, installed work lights, minor repairs, installed a remote hydraulic valve etc. Amazing the things you can do with a little guidance!

Dont order from xenonlink online, but rather call them and you will get a discount for being a forum member. Just tell them your a member of f150online and your total should be about 265 i believe for heads and fogs
