Too add a sub or not...that is the question

I love my nav system for the most part and the sub is nice and clear....but...I want more "hit" when the sound is turned up. Let me be clear...I am not looking to break windows at 50 paces or see how much the plate on the back of my truck will rattle. I just want nice clear hit to go with the nice clear mids and highs. The factory sub does this decent down low but lags of up high.

1. So has any one just ADDED a sub to the existing system and also kept the stock sub to do the mid to high bass freqs? In other words put it under the other seat instead.

2. are there audio outs on this nav unit or will it be an audio tap on the back of the sub?

All I can say to you is DO IT!!! The 09's seem to be missing that "Deep Hit" sort of speak. My 07 has a TON more bass then the 09 sony system but the Sony seems to be able to reach higher levels of sound "Im not a sound expert" SO I don't know the proper terms, but I would go for it man!

Exactly what I mean. It just needs that hit. The system sounds awesome and is way better sounding than even the Shaker 1000's that come in the stangs but it is just missing that hit. I think a single decent 10 would be enough but as you all know...there is room for 2. hmmmmmmm

I ordered my 09 FX4 with the upgraded sony system, but judging by the comments I have been reading about it, I am going to be desiring more bass just as you are. Unfortunately all of the trucks that I test drove before ordering mine did not have the sony system in them so I have not actually heard it in person yet. I am not familiar with the set up of the sony system at all, and it has been quite a few years since I have done anything with car audio. In high school I had a 97 F150 w. two 12" subs at 1000W a piece under the back seat, but that is far more then I want now. I was wondering if there would be anyway to replace the factory sub and amp will something that performed a little better? I would really like to keep the factory appearance, and modify as little as possible to gain that extra bass kick. Any thoughts?

I had a breif listen to a 09 audiophile and quickly determined it at min did not have more bass than my 04. So I may too be looking for replacment sub.

Ok it seems like a lot of people aint happy with the sub setup. I took the sub out the other day just to see how it was wired and i was confussed by the wireing.

So far i think it uses something called preamp level differential outputs and to change the signal to RCA outputs to get an unbalanced signal to the amp you need this.

and this

Im willing to buy a shallow mount sub and amp and knock a removable box up to see how good i cant get this truck to sound without going to silly. Just be nice to know if we need the above gadget to get a signal to the amp? Any Car audio gurus on here know about doing this?

Barritia, from what I can remember you loved the way the Sony sytem sounded....? Hmmm...

Anyways like I said to you before the Sony's don't have the deep bass that the 04-08s do.

Does anyone know who makes the 04-08 sound system?

Yes i do love the way the sony system sounds for a factory system. The sony system does sound very good and there's nothing wrong with it unless you want back thumping bass. Not one Factory system will give you that and the only way to get it is go after market. Big bass does not make a good quality system and i could go spend $100 and put a sub, amp and box into the Ford which will blow away any F150 factory system. But i like quality of sound and not quantity.

Well, that is like me...I love the way the rest of the system and even the sub sound at low volumes. But if I start to play Linkin Park for example and I crank it up with the windows open then I lose all the low bass it has. The highs and mids sound great and the sound stage is still one of the best I have ever heard in a factory stereo...BUT...I want a little more low, back hitting bass.

The perfect solution of ME is to ADD a little sub or 2 to the other side of the truck and just tap into the signal going to the Sony sub. But then again I may have to tap into a door speaker for the signal so the signal input doesnt get ramped down as the volume goes up.

Go sit in a 2007 or 2008 loaded FX4 and you'll find back thumping bass.

The amp that goes to the sub has a limiting circuit built into it. Take the amp out of the equation and it will no longer do that.

Used both systems for a while and the quality off the audio on the 09 is still better than the 08's by far. Just because the 08 booms a little more it dont make it a better quality system and i def wouldnt call it back thumping lol.

Ah ha!! hmmm...now if this is true we could just swap out the amp with even an equal size one and gain performance!! oh that would be just too easy.
