1,500 miles and rust already on rear differential and axel

I only have 1,500 miles on my 2009 XLT and there is already rust on my rear differential case and axel(not just spots but a crap load), what the hell so pissed, going to the dealership Monday to get a answer and to have it fixed, not very happy. Have you guys had a problem like this?

Mine is still black, perhaps not for long. Some people have already commented about rust forming on suspension pieces.

Yeah thats looking pretty good, I can't believe this is even an issue right now I'm gonna hopefully have this taken care and after that I'll prob get under the truck and hit everything with a good rust protector myself since it looks like ford is having a quality issue with these 2009.

That was a joke. It's freshly painted. I touch it up once a year. You shouldn't have rust already, but it's not uncommon.

Prob just surface rust. Wouldnt worry about it to much. If your in a salty climate then prob a good idea to protect it.

Why bother driving all the way out to the dealer, just get out a bottle of flat black rust paint and paint the damn thing. I paint mine twice a year like Lastoh_302 does.

Is this that much of an issue, seriously. If this is the worst "problem" you have with your '09, your doing pretty good.

lol I'm glad you guys are just willing to turn your head to something like this I paid good money for my truck and have had it for a few weeks, and it hasnt been in any salty conditions yet. I paid for a brand new truck not one with rust on it so if its only been a few weeks and not been in salty conditions just think 8 months from now in Michigan with salt all over the roads the rust will be 10x worse.

No, it won't, the housing will SURFACE rust to a point and then stop. It's not going to rust through and it's not going to fall apart. It's just the nature of the beast, those parts rust. Sometimes it takes two weeks, sometimes two months but it's unavoidable.

If you develop that kind of rust on the body, then get angry.

Got any pics? I'm curious as to what "mot just spots but a crap load". I'm not poking at you, I'm just curious to know.

I can see where you're coming from. I spend quite a bit of time at the beach and near saltwater and don't have much to speak of on my diffs or anything else for that matter.

DjG,

I have exactly the same rust on my 09 Platinum (I posted pictures earlier). I went to the dealer the day after I bought the vehicle and sent pictures to Ford manufacturing; they both tell me that the rust is completely normal. I looked under at least 10 other new F150s at a local lot and all had varying degrees of rust. The rust on my truck is in the same place as yours- please post what the dealer tells you.....

It's just surface rust and every brand of truck and car does it. I fixed up my boat lift yesterday and it's been covered in rust for over 5 years and i rubbed it with some gloves on and it just fell away from the surface. I have no idea why it doe this but it's not the kind of rust that will eat through your axle in 3 years time. More like 50 years time.
