keys

Can anyone tell me if all the new f-150's have that transponder key or is it just in certain models? And did anyone try getting some from E-Bay?

What type of key are you talking about? The vehicle immobilizer ones? Or just the keys that unlock and lock etc.?

the ignition keys that come with the truck I guess. This is my first new truck and as reading about these keys and saw them on ebay. I just wasn't sure if they were all the same kind or not. I read somewhere about how much these keys are when you get them at the dealer and was just curious if they all had that type of ignition key.

I'm pretty sure all models come with the little chip that has to be in the truck for it to turn on, in fact I think its law. However, not all models come with a remote to unlock and lock. None of the trucks come with the fusion key, where the remote and key are the same unit. Hopefully this makes sense.

Np. If you do a search, there are threads that discuss the steps of getting a fusion key.

Thank you for the help. I will have remote start though, so I am not sure if that will work. At least I know I will need a transponder key.

I recommend not using the transponder key security bypass module. Get the other kind, or make the installer use the other kind.

If its the remote start you are talking about, it is going to be factory installed.

With any key that uses the transponder (or chip), it's always to go get a spare key so that you have three keys and fobs. If you loose one key/fob, you can still get another and program it yourself. If you have the normal 2 that you get when you buy the truck and loose one, you will dig really deep in the wallet to get a key replaced. It's worth the $30 or so bucks now versus a hundred or more later. Hopefully no one will loose one, but Murphy will get someone!

I got a Fusion key from eBay that eliminates having to carry the fob and it works just fine.

I bought two keys on ebay and programed them both no problem...cost me $9 for the key and about $2 to have it cut, then I programed them myself....just need two good keys.....I can't remember which one, but either keys or remotes have a 4 limit.

It was only $9 for the fusion key? That's a sweet deal.

I would assume he is talking about regular keys...thats what most go for on there. I know most of the fusion keys I see on there is between 30-45 which is a good deal on either one.

I did the "fusion" key mod on my 07. It is simply a ford key with the remore and key in one unit instead of two seperate(Key and Fob). It is called the Fusion key because the ford fusion was the first vehicle in the ford line-up to use this key (followed by edge i believe).

The truck will recognize up to 4 keys (more remotes). To program it you must have TWO working keys/remotes. and consists of multiple key turns and lock/unlocks.

Find the key, get it cut, program (EASY), then hide your orignal keys from wives/family so they cant steal the truck from you because they are so envious
