A few issues, but I'm loving the truck!

Well first off let me begin by saying that this truck is just awesome, my wife and I are really enjoying it especially the sound system. However like most new models we have experienced a few issues. The first thing to come about was the roof liner which began to sag just behind the moonroof. A few days later I noticed the front airbag and traction control 'idiot lights' would remain on after start-ups. And finally based on what I've read here on this site I'm getting slightly worse MPG than most. I took the truck to the service department today and they fixed the roof liner and had to order a module for the 'idiot lights'. The part will be in on Wednesday, should I also have them check the fuel system for issues or do you guys think my 14.3 MPG seems decent. I live three miles from work and travel at an average speed of 45 MPH to and from. Traffic isn't usually an issue and I drive somewhat conservative. I have also put on a tonneau cover which should allow for a very marginal gain in MPG. I'm not overly conceared with the MPG but if I could get better mileage, why not! Just looking for a little input before I have someone check it out for no reason. Thanks.

Your mileage sounds about right. Mileage gains with tonneau covers are overly exaggerated and even then any benefit isn't going to come into play until you get mostly to highway speeds.

With a 3 mile commute, the engine probably doesn't get to full operating temperature and the fuel system does not run in closed loop for very long. 14.3 for a brand new 5500+ pound truck is not bad.

What's the payload on the driver's door or B-pillar sticker?

Its too new to worry about MPG. You need to get at least 1500 miles on it. I know my first 1000 miles I was averaging 13.3 and was shocked. But after it settled in it improved a great deal.

I'd say the 14.3mpg is about right. A bed cover wouldnt help you any at the 45mph youre traveling. Like JVOS, I find with new vehicles, after the first few thousand miles you will see an increase in your mileage. It just needs to break in a little.

14+mpg sounds about right to me - I have a similar 5 mile commute to work and get about the same after 2000 miles. I'd also wait to see what happens with the module for the traction control idiot light issue - I guess there is a small chance that there could be some side effect if the traction control module is flaking out?

You need to break the engine in a little before you will see decent mileage. When my dad first bought his brand new 2008 F150 5.4, he was getting around 13mpg. Meanwhile, my 2004 F150 5.4 with 75k miles (stock height at the time) was getting around 19 mpg highway. Nowadays, his truck is getting around 18 mpg highway and mine is getting 14-16 mpg highway (now that his is broken in....and mine is lifted on heavy tires). :o

MPG sounds right for city driving. I heard they designed the aero dynamics of the new F150 so the air did not turbulate in the bed. Hence the spoiler on the tailgate etc. My salesman told me they did a sales demo with a 100$ bill in the bed and it didn't blow out...

Lol funny you say that. I went to lowes the other day and put the stuff in the bed and the receipt fell from the bag inot the bed well i got back to the house about 5 miles away doing about 60-70 mph and went and got the stuff from the bed and the receipt was still in there. Didnt really think much of it until you just said that. But mythbuster have done testing about the tailgate being up or down for better mpg and they done a test to show how the wind travles over the truck and it causes a high pressure area that keep the wind away from any surafces. You would prob lose this high pressure area with a bed cover and infact get worse MPG.

haha that is one way to make a sale. I noticed only the 09's have this rear spoiler on the tail gate. I actually like how it looks.
