something to look 4

i did my first oil change to day at 3000 miles it had to be the worst filter i have ever tried to get off. i noticed the bottom radiator hose rubbing on the filter and i repositioned hose well it might save ya from a rub thru. i have a 2009 superscrew 5.4l

I haven't changed mine yet, but i took a quick look under there. It kinda looked like there was a plastic tray that channelled the oil out and down. is that the case or is it just a random plastic trim piece?

Still a ways to go before my first change. But if there is a plastic piece for runoff, then yeah it's just like the '04 in that regard. Really was pretty pointless, but it was there. If it's there in the '09 again, hopefully it doesn't get in the way.

The '04 was absolutely terrible for getting at the filter. Incredibly bizarre, seeing as the '97 was super-easy to get to and change. I've only glanced briefly under my truck, it appeared as if it was in a better spot than the '04, but again, not as easy to get to as the '97. Why they don't leave you a nice area and room to get the wrench on t5here and all is beyond me. Perhaps they want you to bring it to them to change so they can make more money off folks. Who knows...

FWIW, the 3 other 150's I owned, my first oil change the filter was screwed on there much tighter than it needed to be and was a beotch to get off, even on the '97 & '98. But at least you could reach the filter with the wrench, not so in '04. For years I haven't even bothered tightening it with the wrench after replacing it, just hand-tightened as tight as I could with one hand. After that, nice 'n easy to change every 5k (or 7,500 nowadays).

$5.89 is expensive. You can get the FL-820S from Walmart for a lot less.

jetech, thanks for the info... how did you reposition the hose? I noticed this same thing after I got my first change done last week and thought that hose was in a weird place. Can you post a pic of how you repositioned the hose? That hose was not there on my 05 and 08. Also, I didn't think to look under there until after the oil change... so I wasn't sure if the dealership who did the oil change screwed up the hose... I guess not.
