fuel filter

Where is it? I just changed my oil at 15k (do it every 5k) and looked real quick for the fuel filter as I plan to change it at 20k. I didn't spend much time but didn't see it. We have an 07 Expedition that I've changed twice. It is right on the front of the fuel tank. It is definitely not right there on my 09 truck.

Anyone know where it is???

Must be with the transmission dipstick.....

It is with the transmission dipstick.
Your vehicle is equipped with a lifetime fuel filter that is integrated with
the fuel tank. Regular maintenance or replacement is not needed.

WOW - a lifetime fuel filter - how is that possible? I guess the same way not ever needing to check the trans fluid is possible. Crazy!

Somehow I never saw that in my book and thought I even saw to change the fuel filter in the maint guide. I'll have to look again.

There is a note about it under the 30k mark in the maintenance guide:

Replace fuel filter (except Escape, Mariner,
F-Series [non Super Duty],
Expedition/Navigator [short wheel base only],
E-Series)

Replacing the fuel filter is a really important thing to do if you want to keep your engine in tip-top condition. I usually change mine every 20-25k miles.

Good luck doing that on your '09.

Huh? Integrated fuel filter that never needs replacement?

I replaced my filter in my 04 earlier this spring after 60,000 (I know, way too long) and it was like dumping a sand box out of that thing. Truck idles much better too.

Unless it's the size of a 5 gallon bucket, this will be a problem in the future.

I was in the dealership/service for my 15000 mi service and I watched the whole crew looking and staring and looking and gawking underneath the truck as it sat on a lift. Back and forth to the parts guy... looking at schematics... then to me with the revelation that the filter in actually inside the tank and could not be changed. Seems these 90's are still a pretty rare species at some dealerships.

I glanced at my fuel filter and it only looks like it is a couple of latches that hold it together. On the 04 and under(OBS), are are these removed by unhooking those latches?

because some dealer don't mandate their techs take new model training, anyone who had taken the new model training a year ago would have known.

you need proper fuel line disconnect tools to remove the the lines. but some use just a push down method.

No Filter! ohh man.... Im getting my new 09, fx4 next week it comes in. This seems odd , why wouldnt they just put a regular filter on? Am I going to regret getting this truck?

Yea, you're going to regret getting this truck because of a fuel filter you can't change.

Does anyone know the reasoning behind this? Just curious as to how they make a lifetime fuel filter work? First time I have ever heard of this. Do any other companies besides Ford do this?

Do the actual lines need to be replaced as well or just the filter?
