Installing Radar Detector can I tap here?

About to install my Passport Radar Detector but want to be sure that all the wiring is the same as the 04-08 in my new 2009 F150. Below is a pic that I found on here and wanted to double check I can go by this setup. Its the blue wire with the green stripe.

I would just grab a test light and probe that terminal just to verify that it is 12V Switched power.

Ugh... I would if I had one of those lol.

Also, this may be dumb but how do I get the plastic covers off?

Can't help you with that yet. Still have a month to go til I get my 09 or else I would run outside and check it for you.

I would skip a test light, use a multi-meter, it is much safer in these newer vehicles.

Glad to see you got the panels off. I took mine apart the other day finding where to tap for my power steps. That is this weekends project.

Do you know what wire I need to tap that isn't a constant 12v? I am lost since my fuse box is different than the one pictured for 04-08 models.

Nope, I have a wire list that came with my steps that tells me which wires are the door sensors.

I installed mine using the turn on lead for the radio. Same idea just different front pillar to run the wires.

I can't remember which number the fuse is, but it's somewhere between like 32 - 37. If you use a tester, you can narrow down your search some with this info. I went to the dealer right after I bought my 09 for the exact same reason and had them look it up for me.

They didn't really want to help, but they did. Now my passport fires up when my truck does.

On my 06 Screw, I just pulled the wires down from the headliner that were connected to the rear view mirror. There is a blue wire with a yellow stripe thats a 12v power supply that my radar detector is wired to.

You could just use the Tapa-Circuit-Mini (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00..._ya_oh_product) or the Add-A-Fuse (http://www.amazon.com/Littelfuse-FHM...gy_auto_text_b) to use the fuse box. Then your radar detector / GPS / whatever is fused and you have a clean installation without the fuss of making sure you got the right wire or splicing existing wires. They only cost $10 depending on which one you get. There are several spare fuses you could use (see page 316 I think from your manual).
