2011 engine lineup

Posted in another forum by an employee at Ford's Dearborn Truck Plant:

"(2010) Job 2 will be the addition of the 6.2 to the raptor and possibly the harley. Also for 2011 we are getting ready for an entirely new engine lineup. I have asked for engine specs and all I was told was a v6, ecoboost, 5.0, and 6.2 available for every truck that gets the 5.4 currently. The only horsepower figures i got was over 400 hp and trq on the 6.2, but couldnt get exact numbers. Hope this helps, and I will post any other changes that might come to mind. Happy 4th!"

Damn, I just got an 09. Guess I'll have to test drive a 2011 FX4 with the 6.2 and see how much difference there is.

Enjoy the HP while it lasts. With increasing emission mandates gas mileage will dwindle swiftly along with horsepower.

Monkey Wrench

Hmm...I was getting tired of my slug and went shopping yesterday. If the Ford 6.2l is anything like its GM counterpart, that would make the F150 a helluva truck.

Now I don't know what to do....

Happy for Ford to see them offering updated powertrain choices...but I'm completely pleased with my '09 5.4L...it is night and day difference between the '09 and my '05 5.4L engines and I purposely passed on the GMC Denali due to having to get the larger 400hp engine...the old saying "ya want the ponies in the barn - ya got to feed them" kept coming back All I could think about was getting 11mpg with the Denali and I really could care less about making my truck a "race truck".

yeah really...I dont really care if my truck is fast, just care if it's tough. I wonder what kind of fuel mileage the 6.2 will get though.

Yeppers. I'd rather have MPG over HP any day of the week. The savings between the 4.6 and 5.4 are minimal at best, so it's a no brainer to get the 5.4 now. But as the rumors continue to circulate about the ecoboost eventually arriving in the 150, we'll have to see all the choices and the MPG for each. Then it might be an actual choice to make in regards to which engine to order.

In '97, '04 and '09 it was a no-brainer; you'd always choose the more powerful engine since the difference in MPG was pathetic between the 2 choices so why go with less HP for virtually nill MPG savings? It'd almost be cool to actually have to think about it, rather than every time a new remodel comes out sitting down with the dealer and saying, "Here we go again, order me the top-of-the-line F-150 with every single option, please."

It'll be interesting to check out if it ever does happen, however if the stock market is still crap in 2011 it may make a lot more financial sense to hang on until the next remodel in 2014/2016. In any generation F-150, I've yet to be tempted by anything less than a redesign. But new motors would be a major item if they truly, significantly, affect MPG savings. That's a big motivator, but then again, it all comes down to costs and how long you plan to keep your truck. And I for one know that I can never sit still if a redesign is around the corner.

I think along the same lines as you CF. More power aint really needed for what i tow but MPG would be a improvement. I think the ony way we are going to see a big improvement is when an all electric version. I wouldnt change the truck for a 2-3mpg increase and i would be very supprised if the EB would give that in a vehicle the size of a truck.

Not really, just take a look at the new Taurus.

The N/A 3.5L has close to 100hp and 100lb-ft less then the ecoboost and have the same MPG.
