Is the end that goes into the stereo just the standard male USB connector? Gonna do this tomorrow if I have the right connecter at the house or even goto best buy and get what I need before I go on vacation July 4th weekend.

Thanks.

This is great, but I have an issue. The day I picked my truck up the USB1 recognized my iPod and life was good. Starting Day #2, SYNC decided that it wants nothing to do with my iPod. I reset the iPod a couple of times to no avail. WTF? Anyone else have that issue?

Pull the fuse in the passenger kick panel. I had the same issue a while back. Reset Sync and IPod. Neither helped. Finally pulled fuse and everything works fine now. Its fuse 13, 5A. Good luck.

Great info on this forum. I found a USB 5 pin Mini Male to Mini Male 3' cable at my local electronics house. $3.13 + tax. Philmore LKG Industries # 70-8055. It works great and no adapter. The fewer connections the better. Hard drive rests in the glove box. Sync gal knows USB2

First, I want to thank all that helped spread the info about this mod! This was quick & easy to do. I'm adding a few photos that other might find useful.

I had a USB/USB bulkhead jack laying around, worked fine.

My truck has the Sony factory stereo system with a speaker in the center of the dash. Removal is no different than the other setup, but be careful of the wires going to the speaker.

Here's the proper orientation of the plug while facing the dash.

I used a tie wrap to prevent a rattle, and from the connector potentially pulling loose.

The iPod showed the Ford icon, so I know it's talking to the stereo system.

I couldn't find USB2 in the menu, so finally used vocal commands to the Sync system. "USB TWO", and it immediately found the iPod.

Very cool! Thanks again!

Wow, very cool! Thank you all for sharing the USB 2 mod info. I pick up my special order 2010 SUPCAB FX2 tomorrow and this'll be one of the first of many mods I do to my new tool.

I've got a question:

if you're jammin to your tunes off the USB 2 HD and your Iphone is plugged into USB 1, when you get a call does the SYNC system shut the music down and allow you to take the call...then automatically start playin the music again when you hang up??

Thanks in advance.

Also you don't need to plug in the phone, you can connect via bluetooth.

While I had my stereo out of mine this past weekend, I wrote down the part number of the wire running to my usb port. If I just buy one of those, will it fit in this second plug in the sync module under the dash?
Is the connection in the module, a USB-B, or a mini USB?
I want to go from there to a USB female so I can plug in my ipod, and leave it in the g-box.
Thanks for the tip. Nice write up.
