It's really not that hard, just takes time to mask off the lenses. I did check the price of new lights in case I made an unrecoverable error.

Did you open the light up then reseal it?

If so it would be great to get a write-up on this.

I love the look and am going to do the same with mine.

How much are the lights if I mess one up?

Did you follow a writeup on here about how to tint those lights? I have the general idea but following the directions from someone that has successfully done it is alway nice.

I didn't open the lights up, just mask off the areas I didn't want painted and sprayed them after a quick wet sanding with 1000 grit. I sanded them lightly between coats to assure they stayed smooth and then followed up with a couple coats of clear. The other write ups on here do a good job of explaining the process. The masking was what took the time on my lights. I mask the outer area first for a couple of coats before hitting the lens area since I wanted the outer area darker. I can tell you that it is possible to break the outer lens area trying to pry them apart. But a quick shot of Superglue and a few coats of paint and you can't tell they were once missing a chunk.

The lights were roughly $40 a piece for the tails, however the quotes I have for the third brakelight are for $315.

I loosley followed the write ups on here as far as preparing the lights, wet sanding with a little soap/cleaner in the water, spraying, and repeating until you are happy. I sanded lightly between coats let them dry about 30 minutes between coats and did it all in one evening. I let them dry overnight after the final clear coat and polished them the next afternoon.

For those looking to do this, here are a few observations based on my experience ;

1. The NiteShades paint dries just a little darker than when first applied.
2. If you get an uneven coat or too dark, you can sand it off pretty easily to lighten the color.
3. You only need to sand lightly to assure the lights are clean and oil/wax free.
3. I even sanded the clear area which I didn't paint, the clearcoat made the area clear again and smoothed up the overall finish.
4. I tinted my tails and third light and still have part of a can of the NiteShades paint left over.
5. If you are still concerned, buy an old light off of eBay and practice on it.

Nice Job DeereGeff,

Those lens do need to be toned down a little IMO and you did a great job. I wouldn't dare try something like that myself. I can appreciate someone elses craftmanship. Keep up the good work.
