12,500 Mile Update

Hi Gang -

Its been about 6 months since my original post.

Everyone posts when their truck is new, but few follow up. So I thought I'd do just that.

Recently passed 12500 on the odometer. My Platinum is my daily driver and I do about 65 miles round trip each day, so expect to put about 20,000/year on it. And at this time, I love it more than the first time I drove it. No problems. No rattles. No shakes. No squeaks. Just a joy to drive every day. I average 16.6 mpg doing 65% highway with the 5.4L and 3.73 axle. I consider this above average and about 1.5 mpg better than my 2005 FX4.

Beyond the obvious, the best attribute of this truck is its comfort. The truck is now THE vehicle of choice whenever we do something on the weekends. (Which has contributed to piling up the miles, but I don't mind.) Though my wife won't drive it herself, she prefers it to her 328Xi coupe for anything over a short errand.

Changed the oil at 7000 miles; went to AMSOIL and AMSOIL filter which provide 12-15,000 miles between changes. (4 of us in the family that drive trucks use it and swear by it.)

Finally, I find many of the Ford accessories to be excellent and helpful. The tailgate step gets used frequently. The cargo management system has been very useful - with both the cargo bars and the divider. And the bed extender is the best - moves out of the way for wheel well to wheel well stuff, but can flip in for nice grocery sized space and of course out for long stuff. And the side steps I only use to get into the bed occasionally, but also find they make a nice step to sit on and change into your boots in the field!

All you Ford guys keep it up! Let's demonstrate that a Company that doesn't need to rely on a government bail out deserve our business!

Nice review. I too feel the same way about the bail out situation and Ford deserving our business. These new trucks are truly something to be admired. My wife and I have enjoyed it so far and being that we love Ford trucks I'm certain the enjoyment will continue long into the future.

Thanks for the in-depth review. With the amount of mileage you have on the truck already, how long do you plan on keeping the truck? I generally put about 20k on mine a year and trade every 2-3 years or when it's well past the 50k mark.

At the moment my 09' is in the shop, I'm in love with the truck.. but am hoping this is just a one time issue.

Nice review. Good to hear that you are trouble free several miles down the road. I agree also on the bailout!

13,300 miles, including a 2300 mile vacation trip, on my FX4 and you pretty much wrote MY review right there. I change the oil every 5000 miles because thats an easy number to remember, and I hope it goes 200,000 miles. I see a lot of 200,000+ mile vehicles out there and I take care of my rides, so why not?

Nice info. I'm sure these trucks will last beyond 200k miles if you do the regular maintenance.

In this case, I plan to keep this truck a LONG time. It truly has ever bell and whistle I've ever wanted. At least 10 years is a pretty safe bet.

In 10 years the truck will probably not be allowed by the government on the road..
