Wheel size question

Hey all, I have an 09 FX4 SuperCrew with a 2" leveling kit. I was wanting to know if anyone has put 17" wheels with 35x12.5 tires on them or is better to just go with 18" wheels. I didn't know if the 17's with a 4.5" backspacing would rub bad or if the'd stick out too far.. Thanks

I am pretty sure a 17" will fit since it is an option from Ford. However, 4.5" backspacing with a 35 will rub bad (or not work at all). You need the backspacing around 5.5 or 6 with an offset around +25 to +30. Then you have to play with the actual width of the tire because of the rubbibg on the upper control arm. Search around there are several threads about this and the new 09s.

smokestone, what is the offset on your 18's? I was wanting to get some rims by this weekend.

Fitment for the 09's appear to be very close to the 04-08's. With a leveling kit you can fit a 35x12.50 using the OEM wheel or an 8 inch wide wheel with 5.5 inches of backspacing on the 04-08's.

XD Monsters (18x9 / 6.38" BS / 35 offset) with 285/75/18 Toyo MTs (35.1x11.6)

Mine are tucked in pretty far. I had 315/70/17 BFG ATs on 17x8 American Racing rims (5.5" backset / +25 offset) on my '06 Screw. Wandell is right about the fitment compared to the 04-08s.

Two things weighed on my decision to go with the Monsters. First, the availability of rims. American Racing has the widest selection of wheels that will work. My problem was all the black wheels were backordered. Either they kept missing shipment dates or were months out. The other was the fact that I only have a 2" leveling kit on my '09. My 06" had a 2.5" kit.

You really have to play with it if you vary from what someone else has already done (exact same tire / wheel / leveling kit combo). Try to get your tire shop to test fit for you.

Good Luck!! Post pics when your done

I got the rims and tires on and it looks awesome. I'll post some pics soon. It's pouring rain so I'll post them when it's clean.

They only seem to ship over 17" rims with FX4 here in the UAE. They work fine, I use them with 285/70/R17, but wanting to upgrade to 295/70/R17 if not 305/70/R17, while putting in a minimum 2" levelling kit.
