It's just a marketing thing. It was dropped as a trim level for 2010 because all 2WD 4.6L with 3.08 axle are rated for 21mpg highway.

SFE 9.75 rear end is 3.15, not sure about the 8.8 rear end.

Doh! 3.08 is gone for MY09. 3.15 for both 2wd 3v 4.6L and 5.4L 6-spd combos.

Lower gears and low rolling resistance tires.

Means you can't tow worth a damn and you can't get off pavement without getting stuck. If you ride the highway a lot and have to have a truck then buy it, if not then pass. Its just a way for Ford to get there fleet avg a little higher.

The gearing of the 6-spd first 4 gears with 3.15 axle ratio are shorter than all 4 gears of the 4-spd with 4.10 axle ratio. It's like a 2004-2008 truck with two even taller overdrives, which I thin is a little worthless as they cannot hold 70mph at 1500rpm on anything but flat and downhills. Any overpass will cause downshifts.

People with 3.55 and 3.73 axle ratio with this new 6-speed are getting up to the same FE as the EPA rates the SFE, with 18% more torque at the wheels. I see no reason not to get the shortest axle ratio with the 6-spd. And the payload issues would only let me pick the max tow package with 3.73 axle ratio.
