2010 SCrew Payloads are higher?!?!

I would like to know how much weight they would take before they do fail. If i put 2000lbs in my bed would they bend or would i have to double the figures they say. I know eberything has a toleranace built in but it would be nice to know how many % can you go over rated capacity before you have trouble.

So if i went over their figure by 500lb i would have problems? I wouldn't have thought that it would fail so easy. I used to work for a company that had lift cables that were tested every 3 months and they were rated at 50tons and were only tested to 50tons but were capable of well over 80 tons from what the inspector was saying. He said that everything has a safety margin and has to take into account worst circumstance. I bet you could go over there rated figures by 10-20% and still be ok. It would be crazy for it to fail at the rated figures they say.

So now with the 2010 having a higher max rear axle load rating, is that part of the "20% cushion", or does your 03 have a even higher cushion? Given how much lighter the 03's were... you should be able to load 3-4,000 lbs on your rear end.

Trust me, 4,500 lbs is it. I doubt that the new truck will have more then 4,100 lbs maybe 4200, equal to the tundra and 100 less then the GM.

03 9.75" rear axle is the same as a '10 there hoss (last major change was in 98 or 99 if memory serves correctly to a larger axle bearing). Only change to the 09/10 is the avail "e-locker" and an additional speed sensor to allow the control trac system function with 4 channel abs. axles, bearings, ring gear, pinion are all the same and interchangable. The axle tubes are still the same thin .180 thick tube.
Again, I say, I'll bet that you will not find a axle rating over 4,200 lbs for this axle, now working at a 300 lb variance from max.

My 05 HD has a 10.5, in 03 they used a 10.25 on th HD, and now they use a 9.75 on everything including the HD. So they are not all the same, there have been changes and if the 9.75 is good enough for the HD now it must be a pretty good axle. It's too bad you had a problem with your 2003. Even if the axle is the same size, there is more to payload than just the size of an axle. I would not think the 2003 would be a good barometer for what will happen to a 2010, given the 2004 had so many changes and 2009 and 2010 had even more. I will wait to hear from DearbornDerek on this matter.

I've tried to locate that but can't find it anywhere. It's also interesting that the order guide does not say one way or another if it's a 10.25 axle. It says heavier frame, springs, etc but nothing about the axle either way.

This is great news! I'm really considering replacing my 2003 now, but don't want a Lariat+ Screw with less payload than my small Jeep and minivan. I was hoping to not step into a 3/4+ ton truck to get at least 1500 pounds of payload.
I built my own F-150 and the Lariat Screw started with 1500 pounds of payload (4x4 5.5' bed), so adding the max towing package may bump that up, minus options. I'm going to look at a couple with the max tow package at lunch time and will get try to get a picture of the door stickers with actual payload and axle ratings. Windows stickers on a few of these 2010 Screws with Max tow package say GVWR 7675 and some have 20" wheels with the same p-rated tires as usual. :huh: Brochure also has the Supercrew 5.4L max payload at 1990 pounds, up from 2009 1760 pounds.

The online inventory says this dealer has a Platinum and a couple XLT's. One XLT was locked, the other I could not find, but the Platinum was open, so no salesman "helping" me.
