Talking Thinking about buying an 09 F150

Well after test driving two different 09's I've finally talked myself into upgrading. I am approved for the loan and all I have to do is pick out the truck I want and go sign the paper's. I'm just wanting some advice from the folks here that have already purchased an 09. I currently drive an 04 crewcab 2wd F150 with the 5.4v8. I like the power of my current truck and am thinking about getting an 09 with the new 3v 4.6. It has plenty of power for me as I hardly ever pull a trailer. The only thing I'm wondering is how much difference their is between fuel mileage. What are you 5.4 3v and 4.6 3v guy's averaging per tank? Here's a link to the truck i'm interested in buying I'm gonna try to talk the salesman down a little but is this a fair price for an 09 2wd F150? Thanks!

I have an 09 Screw 4X4 with the 5.4. I just turned over 5K miles and am averaging 15.0 to 15.2 around town. I usually get in the 17's on the highway running between 70 and 80. I don't really know how much I get per tank as I usually fill up around 1/2 tank. The 36 gallon tank hurts to fill up from Empty. Don't know what the 4.6 crowd is getting, but I really like the 5.4.

Good luck with the 09.

You'll like the 09. Check the carfax, edmunds, Kbb, etc for fair price. I think in a month or two you'll be able to get a brand new one for close that price. Good incentives from ford trying to clear 09s. I have an09 Screw, 4x4, 4.6l3v. Just rolled over 2500mi and finally stomped on it good. It has plenty of power, for me at least. computer says 17.1mpg, has worked its way up from 16. My math says about 16.8mpg. 40mi a day, 35 to 75mph. with the 36gal tank I easily can go over 500mi per tank. Warn the people behind you at a slow pump.

Good luck

440-460 miles per tank with 26 gallon tank. 5.4L

Mostly highway and not light on the pedal either.

I just got an 09 (new) for 29,500 with XLT, 5.4, 6 speed auto, 3.55, tow pkg, brake controller, sync, taligate step, & sat radio. The '09s may be getting harder to find with the options/color you want. I would offer them 24-25 for the one in the link. Or get a 2010....I drove a '10 they have bigger brakes, I could tell a huge difference in stopping power and it also had electric fans (could be better for MPG). Happy hunting!

Yea you got a good deal on your truck. I have driven an 09 and a 10 model and noticed the 2010 model stopped slightly better but I didn't know that ford updated the brakes. I also saw that ford finally switched to E-fans. Thanks for reminding me as I had forgotten about that. My next truck has to be either red, white or black and since i'm buying new i'm gonna be as picky as possible.

15.0-15.2 mpg isn't bad i'm only averaging 12-14mpg around town with my 04. I too like my 5.4 but the 4.63v backed by the 6 speed tranny feels just as quick as my 04 did stock which is why I've been considering it. I'll most likely get another 5.4 though to have that extra usable power available. Thanks!

I've discussed this a few times already. The 5.4L has always had a very high value at about $550 upgrade cost and negligible fuel costs. EPA has the 5.4L and 4.6L difference of 14/20 vs. 15/20 for the 5.4L/4.6L 3v.

5.4L has more peak torque at a lower engine speed, and much more torque under 2500rpm which is where most people drive their trucks. I agree the 4.6L 6-spd should be quicker than your current truck, but insist the 5.4L is still a better value.

Yea I know it's almost stupid not to get the 5.4. With it only being $550 extra to purchase it over the 4.6. I've been having problem's finding a truck with the 5.4 installed though. The only one i've seen with a 5.4 was an Fx4 but I don't want a four wheel drive. I'm looking at another truck now it's a 2010 model oxford white with navigation, sync, power seats,crewcab,2wd with the 4.63v and 6 speed tranny with 3.55 gears for $30,000. It's alot better deal than the red one I originally posted about. This truck only has 18 miles on the odometer also. I originally test drove it a couple weeks ago and liked everything about it. It belongs to a different dealer. I am approved as far as credit goes we're just crunching number's right now. Hopefully i'll be signing the paper's tomorrow morning. Wish me luck!

Yea this dealer is working harder than the last one, which is a little disappointing with the last dealership being the place I bought my 04 from. So far it's a definite purchase. I'm just trying to squeeze every little bit of money possible off the sticker price. Doesn't ford have a loyalty buyer's rebate? I know that I qualify for the 0% apr financing or the $5500 cash rebate.
