2 questions| 1 about towing, other about paint on doors

ok so im about to tow a 6x12 Uhaul to Tampa FL due to moving there, about 4000lbs total when loaded i guess. Is it bad when im going along the flats to take it out of Tow Haul mode to allow it to upshift and get a little better milage? Thanks

Second i was clay baring and waxing my truck the other day and the bottoms of the doors where they begin to curl under the body have very coarse paint on them. I mean its still smooth but very bumpy like it was put on think or something. Is this normal and is there a reason for it?

Heres a few of my baby just because..

the ones on the runway and the last pic are from the local police driving training facility i snuck into haha

With my experience towing a 3500# trailer - there is no need to take it out of tow/haul mode as it still uses all 6 gears - just gives you different shift points, and will also downshift for you when you touch the brakes.

Nice set of photos!

For the bottom of the doors, that is normal.

Both my 06 and 09 has that.

Since your questions have already been answered, I will move on to the pictures. The truck looks good and nice pictures, however I would have tried to get a shot of your truck in front of all those police vehicles.

The bottom of the dors are like that on my 99 and 03 F-150's as well.

I'd keep tow/haul mode on for that trailer.

I've had over 9000 lbs. behind my FX4 and can tell you T-H mode is not absolutely neccesary on flat ground. As long as the tranny is not constantly `hunting' for a gear, your okay. Its the constant shifting that builds heat in the tranny. Experiment a little. Feel it out and see what it will do. That's not a lot of weight and I was impressed with how well that 6speed does. It is pretty smart. When you know your trucks abilities you can pull with confidence and enjoy the drive. An excellent tow rig for a half-ton.

Well i made it to Tampa. Trailer ended up weighing about 5000lbs so i ran with the tow haul all the way and it does allow use of all 6 gears when applicable. Got about 12.2 mpg for the whole trip, of course i ran about 75-85 the whole way and the interrior and back end were loaded down too.

I did have some serious trailer sway issues at around 85 though, and the trailer sway control was on too..

Good to hear you made it safely... way too fast with the trailer tho - 55- 60 is the ideal speed

I do believe the trailer sway only works with trailers with brakes. Please correct me if I'm wrong. And I dont believe I have seen a single uhaul trailer with electric brakes on them. Nor have I ever towed one that didnt sway at least a little above 70 mph.

yeah it had some momentum style brakes when i put the brakes on the tounge of the trailer would sense extra weight transfer and apply its own independent brakes. they suck though.
