Question 2009 5.4 oil

My cousin picked up a 2009 f150 with the 5.4 engine ( i have the 2004) and was telling me he was talking to a mechanic at a quicky oil change who told him he HAD TO run all synthetic oil in his 5.4 as that is what it comes with and that oil changes would cost him around $70. I thought the 5.4 uses a 50/50 blend from Ford. He also said they was no dipstick to check the tranny oil as this is a sealed unit. Did they get rid of the stick on the 2009 ? Thanks.

hmm doubt it on the tranny but it could be true, sealed trannys aren't usually a feature of trucks... also it may come with full synthetic oil... motorcraft has a full syn but the 50/50 is very good stuff.... have him go with the synthetic but not at that place, do it yourself with a MC oil filter for less than half that, the oil is at autozone. Or for that price you could do it yourself and run royal purple or what I run.. redline 5w20

Full synthetic oil is not required. He can use the MC 05w20 which is a blend, not 50/50, but probably closer to 90/10 reg/syn. And yes the trannie has no dip stick sort of. It has one but it is under a cap on the pass side behind the catalytic converter, basically making it useless for the consumer.

Same set up as the Jaguars have had for several years. Its a real pain in the @ss to check fluid level, but it can be done if you have access to a lift.
I would really like the Engineers that decided that todays transmissions require NO service to attempt to convince me of that. There have been two put into my wifes S-Type in 74,000 miles. SHOW ME YOUR DATA !!

Biggest problem is you are supposed to check the fluid when it is hot, and they put the mini dipstick next to a catalytic converter. Can you say 3rd degree burns.
