Why does the 09 5.4 L engine require 7 qts of oil. I had a 2002 with the 5.4 and it only took 6 qts.

3v is a different animal. larger oil pan and probably the addition of a oil cooler ???

it required 7 qts. since 2004.

Because 6 was not enough, maybe?
