Ordered some ceramic brake pads...

Akebono's...from Rockauto.com...should have them by Friday. I did a search here and read some reviews on the web...these sound pretty good. Bye, bye, brake dust!

How many 09 owners are having problems with brake dust yet? I went straight from a 99 to an 09 so I missed out on all the brake dust in between. I know my brother in laws 07 F-150 has a lot of brake dust on his but it doesn't get washed very often.

In the 1500 miles so far on my 09, I have noticed no brake dust at all. But I do wash it at least once a week, never any farther apart. But even when washing I don't notice any. Mine was built towards the end of july so it was one of the later 09s, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Do you hand wash? I'd be curious if you dragged your finger across the rim if you'd see any residue?

what i find odd is that if you look up the motorcraft part # for the brakes 05 to 08 and the 09 have the same part number

now my 09 doesn't get as dirt as my 05 as quick or the 07 but in a weeks time their dirty

yeah, the pads are the same, 04-09. I'm guessing they are different for 2010 though.

I changed my pads around 700 miles or so. Too dusty just like my old 04 truck (change its pads around 500 miles old). Switched to Porterfield carbon kevlars, they still show a little dust after a 1 week or so, but not as bad as stock.

My brother has a 06 and needed some new pads so he used my 09 stock pads, but now he's dealing with the dust.

Yes, I wash it by hand each time. All I really notice is the dust from the gravel roads that sits on the lip of my rim. Maybe having black wheels helps hide the brake dust too. But I did not notice any brake dust when I had my stock wheels on for the first 750 miles either though.

Should I paint my calipers while I have the wheels off? If so, what color do you think would best suit my truck? I think red would really pop. Thoughts?

I would leave the calipers alone.

My brake dust issues stopped when I painted my calipers and hubs. With less than 500 miles the paint on these components from the factory was burning off and dusting up my factory rims.

Since painting it is no comparision on the dust showing up and I have chrome rims.

I made sure I used the caliper paint from the auto parts store as it is ceramic based and takes the high temperatures. I did black and red. Pics are in one of my alblums.

Red would look good. I just painted mine red, and with my Monsters they look incredible.

Has anybody looked into the brake dust shields? I know my '07 had a lot of brake dust on the wheels, especially in the winter, when I could not get it washed as often.

To my surprise, my 2010 has no dust. Although it only has around 400 miles on it, but my 04 had terrible dust, especially front by this time. Makes me happy.

Interesting, never heard of them. Any reason why you went ceramic and not semi-metalic? Lots of heavy towing?

So far, my '09 has 4500 miles on it, and NO brake dust. I've been totally amazed. It was also a July build, with 20" wheels. And, I've wondered if the 20" wheels have anything to do with it. Comparing it to my '04 is night and day. My '04 was so bad, I used the brake dust shields on it...and they helped tremendously. But, even after I put ceramic pads on the '04, I still had more brake dust than what I'm seeing with the '09.
