Bedliner Question

I will be putting a Line-X liner in my 09 FX4 and am considering taking the plastic and step pole off the tailgate. The shop said they can put a plate over the hole it will leave and it will give the bed a uniform look. Has anyone else done this that can show me pictures of how it will look?

Have you considered trading with someone on here who has the normal tailgate?

I would like to keep the tailgate step and don't mind not having the pole.

I have the same tailgate. The line-x dealer removed the plastic cover & pole. He sprayed the edge of the tailgate & reinstalled the plastic cover & pole. This part of the job looked fine.

Give some serious thought before getting your new truck sprayed. I regret having my brand new truck sprayed because the line-x dealer botched the job after two attempts. The good news is line-x is permanent. The bad news is that a botched job is also permanent.

Wow, how did they manage to botch the job?

The first time it was sprayed they missed a large area on the side and the paint was showing through. When the bed bolts were torqued back to factory specs the Line-X bulged out from under the heads. The texture was wavy & inconsistent.

The next time, they cut out the bulged areas, sanded, primed & resprayed. This time the thickness varied significantly all over the bed. The texture was even more inconsistent and the bed bolts can not be tightened any more than 20 ft-lbs without damaging the line-x. A dealer that frequents this site thinks that the the mix was incorrect producing a soft coating.

The bed extender locks no longer work because of the spray build up from the two attempts.
