2010 F150 OEM Trailer Brake Controller

Where can I find information to do this? What parts do I need?.......

LOL, J/K

Sort of an update. I did mine last night. The dealer did have to enable the trailer brake module through their computer. Not sure if this is becuase I had a remote start installed at the dealer, but my plug was not plugged into the tray in the dash(nor could it be becuase of a cap like plug plugged into the end of it). It was taped to another wire (very professinaly I might add) just below the panel by your knees. Plugged it in though and all is good. And FYI, the part number from 2009 and 2010 are different. The 2010 part number is AL3Z-19H332-AA.

Thank everyone who helped.

Thanks for the info. I am looking to get the OEM trailer brake controller added when I bring my truck in for its first oil change.

You can purchase it from Tascaparts.com for much cheaper than what the dealer will charge you. You can put it in yourself and only have to pay the dealer to update your computer to work with it. Just an idea to save you some cash.

Mine cost $168 with tax FYI from the dealer. I tried going to Tascaparts.com and didn't like navigating their site. Plus, they didn't have 2010 available or the part number available.

Jmeo,
Thanks for the heads-up with Tasca. I ended up sending them an email last night, as I could not locate a trailer brake for the 2010 model year.

mrpositraction,
I've found a similar price on Ford's website through a local dealer.

How difficult was it to take the left trim piece off your dash to remove the dash pocket and access the wiring for the brake controller? You mentioned that the harness was taped to another wire near the knee panel; did you have to do further dismantling to find it, or were you able to locate it with just the trim panel removed?

No, if you lay on your floor boards looking up, you will see it. The bundle of wires run along the botton, you will see it taped to it. But like I said, I had a remote start installed at the dealer after I bought it, so they may have moved the wire and taped it there to give them more room.

I didn't have to remove the middle console. I was able to bend the small plastic trim back far enough to remove the tray and install the brake controller. Then, to put it back to together, I had to pop the bottom of the bazel out to get the trim to go back underneathe it.

Once I found the wire, it really only took about 10 minuntes for the whole install. I took the bottom(knee) panel and metal out to have more room to work behind the dash. Make sure you dealer enables the controller, I had mine done before I installed it, it just put an error on the screen until I installed the brake controller.

You have an 09 right?

The 09 brake controller is Different from the 2010's....The 09's have the display in the controller itself while the 2010's display that info in the instrument cluster. That is why the 2010's are a good amount cheaper.

Your right, the wiring harness is taped under the dash..from the Factory. As far as the trim piece, start at the bottom and work your way up by pulling out and slightly away from the instrument panel. And you correct again, the 09 and 2010 are different, the dealer parts department gave me the part number for the 09 which I ordered from TASCA and after several minutes of trying to plug it in I came back to this site and got the correct info from blackjack8900. After calling TASCA they were more than willing to take the 09 model back and ship the one for the 2010. But be advised that they are out of stock, I was told that it could take a couple of weeks before they get any more in....
