You think techs at the dealerships have to struggle with those things to the point of mangling them like that? I'd like to hear their two cents on these things!

^no, if you have the right oil filter end cap socket, it comes off in less than a minute. I took mine off with no problem. it's a different socket than the one that fits the Motorcraft 820 filter.

Aahhh! Thanks for the info!

I have the dealership change the oil, just curious of they were back there beating on my truck and cursing the damn robot back at the factory.

Not for me. I bought the correct socket just for that factory oil filter (i.e. the first oil change). It stripped out the filter. I tried everything short of poking a hole in the filter with a screwdriver. So I finally gave up and took it to the dealership for the first oil change. Now I do it myself. On that note, the dealer put the wrong amount of oil in my truck when I took it in for that oil change. The dealer said that the mechanic thought it was a different engine????????? They put 1 too many quarts in. Needless to say, I dont take it there anymore.

Exactly, good point, 820 has about 36 ribs, oem has about half as many. Here is a shot:

Don't make the oil filter installer at the Ford engine plant angry. You won't like him when he's angry.

No, because the Motorcraft filter has proven to be incapable of withstanding the 5,267,842.51 foot pounds of force apparently needed to "correctly" install the filter at the factory. This also means that every single technician, mechanic or owner installing new oil filters out in the field is installing their filters incorrectly. Lord knows the streets and highways of this great country are littered with oil filters that have fallen off because of this unfortunate situation - not to mention the oil spills. In fact, it's been over 500 miles since my last oil change. That means it's time to re-torque my oil filter.

I feel your pain. The original filter on my Mustang was a %$#@ to get off. King Kong must have put it on. It was a gray motorcraft filter back in those days if I remember right. I nearly had to go the screwdriver route myself.
