How about this deal? (advice req)
I have three offers:
lariat, 2010, total cost is 38k msrp+dest. Offer is for 30.5k with incentives.
lariat, 2009, total cost 40k msrp + dest, offer is 32.5k with incentives.
lariat, 2010, total cost 37k msrp + dest, offer is 29k with incentives, but the truck is not local.
There is definite wiggle room on the 2009 but how much remains to be seen. the 2010 is "supposedly" final.
I have not discussed trade yet.
What would you do? DC capital area, 3k ford + 1k ford finance incentives available.

The varying msrp among the choices tells me the trucks are equipped differently. If you are strictly looking for the cheapest, the last one would be the answer without further negotigations.
But what options are looking for and which truck has those options.
Lastly, if the '09 is still available, low ball an offer to the dealer. You may end up driving it home.

They are similar in features.
All have the lariat plus and captains chairs.
First one has the max tow pack, trailer controller and paint. never driven
second one (2009) has a chrome bar and is 4x4 (others are 4x2). <100 miles, so it has been driven but not really a full on demo.
third has no other features, basic red. diven, <200mi

If it was me, I would get the factory trailer brake controller and tow package at a minimum. Backup camera should be consider too. 4x4 would be nice but your needs will dictate if it's a necessity or not. Also, get the Sony radio option - well worth the cost.

We have a 4x4 (awd technically) vehicle already, so it is a consideration, but only a small consideration and definitely not a decision maker. Weather is not bad enough in DC/VA and MD to need more than an LSD with traction control. After having my LR disco for so many years... I just don't use it or care to pay for it again.
Heck I used to drive a porsche boxster in the snow. WITHOUT traction control. I stopped doing that after getting into a 720deg spin going into oncoming traffic at 6mph though. No damage but my eyes got REAL big
So back to the first one, this price is at invoice including rebates. Would that mean the holdback is about 1100? Is there anything else to consider in terms of ways to move the needle? That should get me down to 30k if we split the holdback, but what other numbers are there that could bring it down to 29.5 or 29k?

Check out edmunds.com and carsdirect.com to see prices others have supposedly paid for similarly equipped trucks. Also, if you're a member of Costco, get them to give you a no hassle, bottom line price. Use that as your base.

Answer: depends on how eager the dealer wants to sell a truck.
Some members bought their trucks cheaper than xplan pricing. Depends on how well you can negotiate and how eager your dealer wants your cash instead of holding the truck in inventory.
But if you can get xplan pricing, then the rebates are in addition so you can chop off another $3-4k off. Seems like a great deal to me.
