I just installed a 'dry' performance air filter...aFe I believe was the brand. The butt dyno tells me it made a difference.

On a serious note, I have heard that this one works pretty good:

Thumbs up

when you oil it just follow the instructions and you will be ok. people tend to over oil them and it will cause problems withe the maf but you can clean that if you have to i have used k&n filters and never had a problem.

I believe Donaldson makes a good product. They are a military and commercial service supplier. In general more air means more dirt. Often the air box and piping is the restriction, not the filter element. I rememebr on the early Lightnings the stock air box had a 2.5" hole in the fender that acted as a restrictor plate. I would stick with a Donaldson or AFE 5-7 layer type filter. Too much filter oil burns up MAF sensors.

I have run K&N filters in all of my vehicles, for over 20 years with no issues. I have changed lately and gone with a BMC ( oiled) in my Suzuki, and replaced my drop in K&N, on teh Expd, with S&B CAI.

OK fine:

2. What increase in horsepower should I expect from a K&N replacement filter?

K&N direct replacement filters which install into your vehicle's factory air box can provide an increase of between 1 and 4 horsepower. Results will vary depending on your vehicle, driving habits, load on the engine (towing for example), existing air system restriction, and other factors.
It's just that I don't really feel like blowing an extra $50 for 1-4 HP. 1% HP gain isn't really worth it IMO. Now K&N's may prove more beneficial in terms of filtering if you drive a lot in particular conditions, so I'm not speaking to that, just that if you're looking for performance increases, an air filter alone isn't where you should be looking. Even the complete intakes (discussed at length in other threads) aren't really worth it - you might get 10 HP from one of those, for $300+. I'm not saying that K&N's are BAD, as I've used them before in other vehicles, just that the performance increase is negligible for the cost.

Exactly.

statikuz, if you're a tool, you must be a Craftsman.
