yeah it's so totally awful dude...it's also like why ruin the look of a nice white lariat by adding black headlights and tail lights when they don't really match the paint and chrome bumpers/grille???? IMO

ouch...i wasn't bashing anyone's truck or anything, just thought the tail gates looked fine as is before the platinum package. but still those chrome oem tails look terrible on every model that has them, i had to do some other option and really the HD tails are the only thing out there at this point...as far as the painted bumpers/grille go, i haven't got the funding to do that yet...we can't all go out and blow our money on platinum's and let ford do all the work for us!

Platinum is only about 2.5 to 3k more than a loaded-up Lariat or FX4, so it's not like your breaking the bank. then when people start adding things like painted bumpers or the power running boards on their own, then you are just about at the same price. now the Platinum has the chrome stuff that some don't like but that's another story...

yeah, notice i never said the platinums were ugly as a whole (just the tailgate)...by the time i'm done with my truck it'll probably look like a white platinum crossed with a harley....at the time of buying my truck...50K msrp WAS breaking the bank for me!!! had to go with the lariat (i would have gone with an FX4 but they don't offer the white sand paint option which was a no go for me) and add upgrades as time/income will allow me to.....

No one really knows. It will be another of those mysteries of life. We can put a man on the moon, but can't get the panel off the tailgate.

Well, let me put an end to all this speculation. I removed my Platinum tailgate and it was a big PITA. First of all, if you do not have patience and aren't prepared to scrape your knuckes, then don't do it. Second, the tailgaite has 7 holes when you take it off. It is held on with 13 miles of 3M tape and clips. So how someone's could have been coming off, I don't have a clue. 3rd, you are committed to do something after removal. Leaving it off is not and option. Lastly, I had mine painted Tuxedo Black to match my truck and I like the look.
I will post some pictures later today.
