Question Anyone put in brighter reverse lights?

I've seen threads where people have added lighting but I was curious if there was a brighter backup bulb I could put in there. I can't see squat when backing up in total darkness.

My 2010 has the brightest back-up lights of any vehicle I've owned. That light above the cab really helps but don't look at it at night, it will temporarily blind you! The back-up camera works well in the pitch black too - you just have to keep the lens clean.

I replaced my OEM ones with the Silver star ones at Advanced Auto for $8

They are about 20% brighter than stock, but you can seriously tell

Exclamation Backup camera! Must-have option.

None of my F-150's I've owned (1997, 1998, 2004, 2009) have ever had good backup lighting. I always just assumed it was because it was a 4x4 high height vehicle and the line of sight and height affected the very poor nighttime back-up visibility.

But I will say this. The backup camera on the 2009 is quite amazing and actually makes it so you can see what's going on behind you in the pitch black of night. Otherwise you kinda guess and move very slowly out and hope you're good like in my other 150's. For this reason alone the backup camera is a must-have option. I was really surprised at how well it worked at increasing night time visibility to the rear. It has even worked quite well in the crap snowy/icy New England weather this winter so far also.

I'll second that! The most useful option on my truck, especially when you have a canopy on to restrict your vision even more. Don't know how I ever backed up without one.

^^ Another vote for the back up camera. And if you don't have the nav system with the full sized screen, you really can't get the full benefit of the camera. My father-in-law has a 2009 with the camera view in the rear view mirror and it doesn't even come close to being as effective as the nav screen.

That's true if you have poor vision. Otherwise the resolution of the two systems is the same and I actually prefer the display in the rear-view mirror because it makes it easier to switch from camera view to rear mirror while backing up.

The camera view in the mirror is very detailed and works best for those who have good eyes.

I went through the truck and replaced all bulbs with LED except the headlights-foglights- front turn signals, and puddle lamps. everything else are LED. i could have went with a LED style that had them pointing straight back as well as lights around the unit for backup bulbs. but i just ordered the 9 bulb ones , same bulbs in cargo light. ultra white light. love em. and the bulbs i put in turn/stop. you can see those in thick fog. the color temp and pattern is a little different. almost a darker red. not purple.

i bought everything at www.V-LEDS.COM
all the bulbs in the trucks map lights are LED as well. what a difference.

Fogs, headlamps, and front turn are all silvania ultras.

This is the best mod I've done to my truck, besides the USB mod. And well worth the $20.

That's the type of mod I like, nice 'n easy for people like me who don't have a clue what they're doing when it comes to sutomobiles. Does it actually work just by plugging it in to that socket? Just throw the truck in reverse and it somehow knows to come on, then it also just knows to shut off after putting it back in drive?
