What would be the best 3m type of tape to use to install these. I got a set of sterling gray flares and was gonna install them. I did install them with some 3m moulding tape and used two layers but in a couple of spots the tape seperated between the layers. I was thinking of trying 3 layers of tape or a different type of tape. I think my problem might have been that the two layers weren't thick enough since it didn't quite sit flush. Here is what I used which should work right?

3m 03614

Ideal for attaching vehicle body side moldings, trim and emblems. Strong bonding and easy to use. Cut to size, no mess.

I used this, not sure the difference, but mine has worked great since Friday.

I also used some promoter, always seems to help.

I used two layers on each tab, then used some anywhere else the flares touched the truck. I've yet to drill the holes for the tabs underneath, still wondering if I need them?

I never drilled the holes for the black clips, and just used the tape. It's held up fine for over 1.5 years now. I used this stuff on all of my aftermarket stuff on my Mustang and never had a prob. I also keep my truck outside, since the garage is filed with boy stuff

I've got a friend that tried mounting factory flare without drilling holes. It wasn't very successful. The first attempt to use 3M double sided tape would not hold well enough. The flares would stay on for a short time but the dirt and vibration I guess eventually caused them to come off.

Dealers do not have a template to drill holes. It's one of those things that if your truck didn't come with it, Ford didn't make any consideration for mounting the factory flares.

I installed oem lariat flares on my 06 XLT. I drilled holes in the fender lips and used screws instead of push pins. On the sides of the fenders I didn't need tape or anything. I just held the flares firmly to the fender when tightening the screws in the fender lips and got a good tight fit with no tape on the sides. But if you don't get a good tight fit and need tape on the sides. You can remove the side clips from the flares and the flat areas where the clips mount on the flare would be a good place to put strips of tape.

I haven't been here in a long while. Glad to see this thread was useful! I still have not added the flares to my truck, but, I'm going too soon. How are the sticky tape flares holding up?

Getting mine shortly and will try the screw method first. Will use tape as a last resort.

Using the 3m tape is a recomended method. It holds the top edge in place, and prevents vibration, which can cause paint rubbing, and ultimately bare steel (rust). An ounce of prevention here boys.

Well I have to say after 100's of washes, both by hand and by automatic washes also a few winters up here there have been no issues at all. Flares haven't fallen off, they aren't moving around or anything. Looks like factory then and still look exactly the same. I have just over 60,000 miles now.
