New 2010

Hey guys.. Just bought a new 2010 XLT crew cab. After rebates and dealer incentives got it for $24998 plus fees. Loving the truck so far.

But i do have a question, I have the 5.4 engine, and inside the cab i hear a slight Ticking noise, i cannot hear it while outside the truck, and it drives normally. Is this normal? or something to be concerned with?

Sounds like every other 5.4. As they always say it is the 3rd valve, or the phase etc etc etc. on a Jeep straight 6 it was always the O2 sensor. Take it in and let them know. I took my 04 in many times for that until i rode in others and still had it in my new 08 xlt SC.

Probably the cam phasers or injectors ticking. Both are common issues.

Mine's doing the exact same thing. It isn't the same 'thumping' noise as when the cam phaser had issues on my 04. Mine varies with engine speed and I can only hear it with the radio off. . .I don't have time to take it into the dealership and I have a whole lot of warrant left (just got it last week) so I'm not going to worry about it just yet.

Slight ticking is injectors. I can just barely hear it inside the cab when the radio is off. Can definitely hear them standing outside. My '04 had the same slight ticking. Then the passenger side phaser started knocking and drowned out the injectors.

I had a slight ticking sound on my new 05 I thought initially it was injectors but on closer inspection it turned out to be a small exhaust leak. They had to change the driver's exhaust manifold.

So lets hear about it and see some pics. What color, body style, bed, engine, axle, drivetrain, and packages/options do you have??

Congrats on your purchase! I love mine! Didn't realize what I was missing!

My new 2010 I bought in Jan. 2011 is a Blue Flame XLT Crew Cab, 5.4L, 4WD with 3.55LS axle and 5.5' bed. I have the convenience package, drivers package, tow package, sync package, and 5" chrome side steps. I just added Ford Factory Rubber Floor Mats, Bedrug Bedliner and a Extang Solid Fold Tonneau Cover.
My Axle ratings are Front = 3750#, Rear = 3850#. GVWR = 7200# . Factory optioned payload rating according Tread Act Sticker (tire and loading) in the driver's door jam is 1430 lbs. With my bedliner (17#) and Tonnea Cover (50#), my actual payload is 1363 lbs.

I wouldn't worry about any weird engine sounds unless it's a defined knock. All my newer engines with VVT and Overhead Cams had ticking of some sort in the engine. The Nissan Titan was the worst with it's 5.6L 4 Valve engine. Could be the injectors as they seem noisy now a days.

I just bought a 2010 screw 4x4 5.4 3.73 7650 GVW 5.5 bed. Color is royal red with the adobe (?) interior. Has the sync max tow chrome step boards. Absolutly love the truck. Had an 08 SC 2wd 5.4 before. Never heard a noise with it and this one is even quieter.

When I first start my truck and turn the radio off I can hear a very faint tapping noise. Its just the injectors on these motors, they are pretty noisy. Now if you hear a diesel like sound get your truck to the dealer ASAP. If its just a light ticking sound, dont worry about it. On my daily driver car when i first start it on cold mornings it has piston slap but once it warms up it quiets down. Once these motors are warmed up you shouldnt hear much noise from the engine at all.
