I thought the 2009+ F150's already had a tailgate assist/damper? The gate seems a lot 'lighter' than I'd expect it to be without some kind of assist in it already.
I know I added one of the ezdown spring things to my old Tundra. It worked well, but was almost too strong - the tailgate wouldn't lay completely flat without some weight on it.

the one on your tundra sounds like it was either the wrong one or it was installed incorrectly

The clip is loose and wants to come off. I'm going to drill it and pop rivet it on.

starting in 2004 ford added a spring assit lift to the tailgate. The ez down is exactly that. it lets the tailgate drop slowly and has nothing to do with lifting the tailgate.

I was wrong - I had an 'Easy Lift' on the Tundra, not an EZ Down.
