My new Lariat

My new Lariat
I sold my 2001 F150 SCREW Lariat 4x4 and I went truck shopping. I actually started looking back in January...the old 5.4 Triton began blowing spark plugs out on my old truck and I had to get rid of it.
After several months of research and test driving I ultimately ended up back in a Ford. My initial choice was an XLT with shift on the column, leather, split bench...nice truck...I didn't want or need anything too fancy.
I took the wife with me to test drive a few vehicles on Thursday and the XLT I had picked out had traded. This led to the first big mistake...letting her sit in a Lariat. This was a 2010 F150 SCREW Lariat 4x4 that was loaded. Leather trimmed heated and air conditioned captains chairs, moon roof, sliding rear window, SYNC system, dual zone climate control, power everything, and a 5.4L mated to a 6 speed transmission.
Just to humor her I got into a sales pitch game with her...she got to pitch what she liked about the Lariat to try to sway me from my XLT decision. I REALLY wanted shift on the colum to avoid the problem I see coming with shift on the floor...that being spilling my coffee into the shift housing when my mug gets bumped by the shift handle as I bring coffee to me.
She was persuasive...enough to get me to pull the trigger on a very well equipped Lariat. Pics are below.
It's amazing to see how much has changed in 9 years. My 2001 Lariat looks like a stone age beast compared to the 2010 model.
Initial thoughts on the 2010 are: great quality, interior fit and finish is second to none, ride quality is as good as it gets, it's eerily quiet in the cab when driving, Sync system is very functional and very cool. The stock sound system is OK...sound quality is nothing to write home about...I guess I'd describe it as "adequate". Overall this is a great truck and I'm very happy with it.
Oh yeah...one thing I never would have ordered was the backup camera and reverse sensor. I've been driving pickups for 15 years and I've never hit anything backing up...BUT this feature is pretty cool. Especially at night. I can see how this will make things easier in the woods when trying to backup and turn around...I'll now be able to SEE if I'm about to back into a ditch or hit a tree as opposed to my old Jedi method of using The Force. It'll make hitching up to a trailer easier too. Pretty cool feature.
