FX4 option question

I've been looking around for a black FX4 with the luxury package and moon roof but every truck I find has the $2,430. Sony navigation radio. Seems like a lot of money for a fancy GPS unit when I already have a Garmin. I did a search of all the California dealers and no one had my truck without the navigation. I know I can always factory order it without but I'm afraid by the time it arrives the huge discounts that Fords giving out will be over. Any thoughts on this nav unit?

The NAV unit is much more than a "fancy GPS"

You have:

Touch screen stereo controls
Touch screen climate controls
Touch screen phone controls
SYNC
On screen weather maps and reports
On screen fuel prices

and a whole lot more.

I've never even had a use for a GPS before I bought my truck, and felt I didn't need it either, but now that I have it, I would be without it.

I was in the same boat, every truck that had the leather/heated package I could find had the NAV.

I'm happy now though, the jukebox feature is really nice along with everything else /\

I factory ordered mine on Dec 30/09 and I'm not sure if it's different in the US but here in Canada I was told I was guaranteed whatever incentives/rebates that were on when I ordered the vehicle but if deals got better by the time I took delivery then I had the option of taking the better deals. Something to keep in mind because I too didn't want to spend what was almost $3000 up here for the Nav.

Pay the $2400 minus the rebates or order a truck with exactly what you want and not pay the $2400. It could be a wash. I would venture to say some kind of incentive will still be around when your truck arrives if you order it.

In order to get the moonroof you have to get the sony nav, they are one option packaged together. I wanted nav but did not want a moonroof. I did get the Sony radio, it was about a $450 option. Well worth it.

I doubt the rebates are going to go away anytime soon.

I have an 09 with an moonroof and no nav, I bet that moonroof/nav combo is one of those packages they offer together and tell you you are getting great discount on.

I personally would look at it like this, the nav adds about $50 a month to your payment on the truck so do you think the nav is worth $50 a month or not. To me it wasn't so no nav.

Save the money... everyone complanes the Nav isn't accurate and updates are tough/damn near impossible. Garmin/Tomtom is cheaper and easier to update. Do yo ureally need touch screen AC controls? I never use the dash stereo controls because of the driver's group steering wheel controls. Order what you want if the dealer will offer to honor all rebates currently available.

I was in the same situation not wanting the nav, but when the dealer priced the exact truck without the nav one of the $1000 rebates would drop off. So I went with the nav since really it was only a $1400 upgrade. I don't know if it is still that way, but that was back in December. Also I'm glad I did, I love the nav and everything else it has to offer. I Couldn't imagine my truck without it.

I personally would not pay $2400 for the Ford nav, but that's just my opinion. What happens in five or six years when the unit fails? How much will it cost to replace? If it controls the climate controls, then I assume you can't install an aftermarket in its place. If something newer comes out, you can't remove the factory unit and install a better aftermarket unit. I'm sure some will say, "well, I don't plan to keep my truck for five or six years". Well, the problem with that argument is that you may have paid $2400 for the unit, but the value of your truck is not increased anywhere near that amount, and by some accounts, it is actually decreased by having it in the truck. It sounds like you don't really want the nav, so I am preaching to the choir. Just don't let people talk you into doing something you really don't want to do.

Hey quick question. Its somewhat off topic but all you guys are FX4 guys. I am stationed in Key West and cant go look at an FX4 unless I drive 3 hours. So what is the non leather interior like? I dont know if I want leather or non-leather.

But to the OP. I would opt out of the Nav if you can. So many better aftermarket options IMO.
