Rearend bouncing/hopping when tires spin.

I have noticed when my rear tires spin, either when I make them spin on purpose or other times, the rear-end starts to hop or bounce. This happens either with t/c on or off. I have a limited slip rear-end. On my '04 screw that I had this did not happen. Has anyone else experienced this?

wheel hop is wheel hop
tires spin, then grab then spin some more then grab
quit spinning your tires and this should alleviate the problem.

I know how it happens and why, but I have never had this happen on any of my other vehicles and was suprised to have it happen on this one. I was just wondering if anyone else is having this happen? It just suprised me to have it happen. Usually the tires will just spin and smoke.

Your new tires are probably stickier than your 04.

That might be it, but I had 3 different sets on my 04. Oh well who knows. I just sometimes want to make them smoke, it's fun.

I think the rear springs are longer in the '09 up trucks. This would allow for easier wheel hop. Wheel hop= your gonna break something expensive. Try not to do it.

Also, did you have any weight in the back? The *** is very light, and if there is no weight there's nothing to hold it down from hopping. '10 may be lighter than '04. Try throwing a couple of sandbags in the back and see if it still hops.

Not that I recommend burnouts.

Make sure you do burnouts on dry concrete pavement, not on ashpalts. If you do a burnout in a certain way, you won't have anymore hopping, just a few broken driveline components, like snapped axle shafts.

But seriously, the hopping is due to the tires coming close to traction and then breaking out of it. That's not good. You want the tires to always be spinning in excess, well beyond the point of traction to avoid mechanical failure. Try on a patch of wet pavement (preferably asphalt) to see if the hop is still there. If it's still present, you need either more torque from the engine or less sticky tires.

I have tried it on wet asphalt and it still hops. No I did not have any weight in the back. Oh well I guess I won't get to do burn outs like I used to.

Just tighten the "nut" that connects the seat to the steering wheel and you'll be fine.

It's from axle wrap... Any leaf sprung suspension will experience it to some degree. These springs are longer than 04-08s for a better ride, but the longer the leafe spring, the more axle wrap can occur. If it's really a problem you could try traction bars like a lot of people put on muscle cars.
These trucks also have more downward "rake" than the older ones, which transfers more weight into the front end (and less on the rear) which allows the rear to break traction easier. A leveling kit can help this...
