Tailgate step removed!!

I meant Handle!!! I have hated that stupid handle since the day I got my truck and now its finally gone! It got in they way when loading/unloading and we couldn't sit on it comfortably. Best $65 mod so far. I love the step by the way! Now for the Line X.

Picture in the second post isn't showing up for me.

So you just bought a new inside plate for the tailgate? That's a good idea. Were there any other parts?

Looks good.

I just ordered the panel from the dealership for $60 and took all that plastic and handle out and the panel went right in. Took a total of about 10 minutes.

Handle delete looks good.

I like calling what Chevy calls it though, The Man step. The only thing I like from Chevy.

Looks good and clean, except I actually like the handle but then I don't sit on my tailgate too often.

No other parts needed. I went to Ace a got the screws because Ford wanted like $2 for on screw. Part # 9L3Z-9943121-A $61.42 + tax. Very simple to do. Hardest part was trying to figure out how to remove the plastic and the handle.

I read this last night and loved what you did. I actually didn't want a tailgate step for my truck originally, but my dream truck, that literally had every other thing I wanted, had a tailgate step. Well, the first time I tried it out I loved it. However, I still don't like the fact that it doesn't look like a regular tailgate, and it's a little strange to sit on. But I had a Line-X appointment scheduled for today, so I was like damn I have to decide quickly whether I want to do what you did because I'd have to cancel my appointment and alter my work schedule again, etc. I immediately went outside and tried using the step without the handle. It wasn't bad, but I like using the handle. Granted I was in flip flops when I tried it, and I don't like any sort of climbing or non-flat ground with flip flops so that might have skewed the results. So, I decided I'll keep the handle (for now anyway, maybe change my mind a couple years down the road) and went ahead with my Line-X today. Thanks for letting us know about this, though. I like knowing that I can fix it in the future if I feel the need to.

I am actually getting ready to do Line X too and I mainly didn't want line X in the bed and all that plastic in the taigate, kinda cheezed it up in my opinion. I didn't change it just for sitting on, mainly because it was getting in the way loading and unloading tools. I do use the step a lot and I never have needed a handle. Maybe when I get old I'll need it and put it back on, but by then I'm sure I'll have a different truck.

I kinda like my step, but I can't stand the handle & plastic liner. I really didn't want the step either, but the "perfect" truck that had every other option I wanted also had the step. My bed is Line-X'd and I have a Retrax bed cover, the shop that did my bed cover & line-x said if I ever decided to put a different access cover on, he'd line-x the tailgate for free. I think I'll finally get around to doing this, I just needed to see a pic first.

Thanks for the pics & part#!!!
