Air Conditioning-2010

Does anyone have experience with the manual v.s. auto air conditioning in the 2010 F-150s? I had an XLT with manual and it worked really well. The air in my new Lariat with auto air seems to take forever to cool down, now that it is hot enough that it has to work a little. I have the temp turned all the way down and fan on high. Any thoughts?

My auto in my 2010 is JUNK. It runs the fan at high speed almost the whole time trying to cool just a few degrees. Sadly, my gmc was so much better.

Try turning it to the "Max" setting. This closes the outside vents and recirculates and cools the interior air.

I just have an XL with the manual A/C, but I have no complaints. Its starting to get hot in Dallas and it cools real fast...

Mudflap, that was my question. I'm in DFW also and my old manual was the same. This auto thingy is making me mad. I paid a lot of money to have to wait 10+ minutes for it to get cool. From these posts, I'm not the only one who is disappointed with its performance.

On a side note, the air in the seats works wonderfully. How can there be that much difference?

I don't know if it is how they cycle the E fans or what. My F250 2005 blew nice and cold. My 09 Explorer and 10 F150 don't cool well at idle even on max etc. I have to idle it up or be driving down the road to get cooling. It may also be a lower idle speed for fuel economy.

L8 APEX,

Yes, that is it exactly. My old 2003 Mustang GT was better, as is my new Mustang. I don't get it. I wonder why the seats cool immediately though?

Have you tried to just let the system work as it is designed?

You said you have the temp turned all the way down, and the fan on high...

Have you tried it with the automatic setting?

Just set the temp at 68 or so on AUTO, and see if that might help?

I know for sure in all the dodge rams I have owned the air got down to 34 degrees and on my new 2010 Screw it only get to 38. Not complaining, just an observation...

Mine works like a charm. Like Stormtech suggests, leave it in 100% auto and let it do it's thing. For mine, turning on "Max A/C" kicks it back into manual. So;

Instead of max a/c (manual), try the recirculation option on auto. If you turn the temp down to the lowest setting, the thing blows like there is no tomorrow. I've already had a few warm days here in TX. The auto function works fine. Only three buttons. Auto, A/C, and recirc (the little car with the curved arrow).

Coupled with the cooled seats... It's going to be an easy summer.

Same problem with mine. We actually had a couple days when temps got to 80 degrees. On auto I noticed once, the A/C would kick in, but most of time I just got alot air flow. I just pushed the A/C button and it cooled down pretty quick, not great but not bad. I only need A/C a few months of year

Me thinks you have to tell it if you want heat, or A/C. For cooling, I always and only leave three buttons pressed; Auto, A/C, and Recirc (not max A/C). Leaving it in this setting, I just set the temperature like I would if I was in my house. So far, it has worked like a charm. My only complaint, is that sometimes it can take 30 seconds for the fan to really kick in on a hot day. Once it does though, it works perfect.

Remember, it works off temperature only, not "feel factor". If the temp is within parameters, but it is humid or stuffy, the auto mode will not recognize this. If the "feel factor" sucks, your two choices are to just lower the temp 4-5 degrees, or switch to manual.

FWIW, I had a 2008 model, fancy German sedan in-between my two F150's. It too had auto heat/cooling. It worked the SAME way. My latest Lariat works just as good when left alone to do it's thing. I'm impressed.

Still having the issue. The seats are awesome though! They are cold almost immediately.
