It just says FX. What is really annoying is that on the Ford website they show FX4.

In my 2009 it shows FX4 in the cluster just like the picture. Ford must have cut corners/costs by using the same instrument cluster for the FX2 and FX4.

seadragon, I agree. The gas mileage is incredible on the new F150s!

You know, I'm afraid I'm gonna rip off the steering wheel (as I am no longer the lightweight young teenager )! Definitely needs a "crap-strap" or something.......

My theory is that because the cluster is black on white during the day, if the cluster lights are on, the blacks are not as black thus not as much contrast with the white background. Kinda makes sense I guess.
I find myself checking the lights often when it is at or near sunset. This really takes some getting used to. I never know when the lights are on when the light switch is on auto (unless, of course, it's totally dark outside).

BTW, nice truck! Congrats!

Yeah, that's something I noticed just yesterday. The auto lights will turn on the tail lights but still not light up the dash. So you have no way of knowing if the rear lights are on or not.

To be honest, I don't really care for auto lights in general. The truck just came with it, but its not a feature I'd go out of my way to get.

I may paint the sensor black or disconnect it and just control things manually. That way, the dash will always light up when the main lights are on. And if I leave it on auto with the sensor blacked out, it will just put the full lighting on whenever the truck is running.

Thanks for that unbiased writeup Seadragon. Both trucks have their plusses and minuses.

Awesome pic OMEGA!! Nice truck you've got there. I'm really liking those tow mirrors!

I love the blacked out look. My last truck had lots of chrome and I vowed my next one would be black, black, black.

I'll raise a glass with ya!

Thanks buff1.

You know, I really think that all the 1/2 ton trucks on the road are nice. If I could afford to have one of each, I would. And I'm dead serious when I say that.

Mine says FX4 on the instrument panel. Weird that this one does not.

I completely agree, I can't stand the auto lights at all! Is it possible to delete them by painting the sensor or disconnecting the sensor????? And while we're at it can we get the low beams to come on when the high beams are on?????

Hey Jeff, by covering up the sensor or painting it black, it will think its night all the time. Therefore, it should also force the dash to light up whenever the lights are turned on. If the switch is left in the "auto" position, the full lighting system will come on whenever the truck is running.

As for the high/low beams, the problem here might be that Ford uses a single bulb with 2 filaments. The bulb is probably not designed to handle both filaments running at the same time and would most likely blow. I'd like to put projector type headlights in at some point where there are 2 separate lenses for the high and low beams.

You have an '09. the 2010's went to the "FX" (no 4) on the dash when the FX2 was introduced. The FX4 and FX2 can now share the same dash part. Sure, it saves some money for Ford, but hopefully, some of that extra 100 dollars Ford saved will be passed along to consumers...

I wouldn't want ANY lights to be on during the day unless I turned them on. My Tundra doesn't have the DRL's and when I get my F150 I want to be able to get rid of the DRL's. When I see other trucks that have DRL's on during the day I get a sick feeling in my stomach because it makes the trucks look disgusting.

Well, DRLs are mandated here in Canada, so we have no choice. I think they look okay but I'm used to them. In fact, it looks strange to see a vehicle without them (older or out of country cars). The Tundra used the front parking lights on high as DRLs and they looked cool. The F150 just uses the low beams at a lower intensity.
