Paint simulated wood trim in 2010 Lariat?

I need help with a MOD; I want to paint my simulated wood trim black like the trim in the FX2 and FX4’s. I really like the trim in those models, and I would have bought one except you can’t get a NAV system in the FX2. As far as the FX4 is concerned I don’t really need 4x4 and you can’t get heated and cooled seats in the FX4. I also had the dealership look up how much it would cost to replace the trim with FX4 trim and it would end up being around 1,000$, that is way too much for stupid plastic parts.

I was wondering if any of you have painted any plastic pieces like the simulated wood trim before, I also wanted to know if it looked good, and if it withstood the test of time. Thanks

The trim in my FX2 is not just painted, it is embossed like, kinda looks like carbon fiber. I don't think it would be easy, if even possible, to paint yours to look like the FX2. IMOH

You can send the pieces out and get them dipped. I had it done on my 08 GMC by the dealer before I picked it up. It is a chemical that they dip the pieces in. Mine was wood panel to start and is now carbon fibre. You can also buy 3M type tape and cover up the wood panel which is a cheaper option too. I will try to post pics tomorrow and as well I will call the dealer where I bought the truck and get the info for where to send. Still waiting for my 2010 FX4. Should have it soon.

I would also be satisfied with a shiny black, just as long as it’s not wood simulated wood grain. I think it looks cheap; this is the only thing I think ford did wrong with this truck other than the outdated engine.

Thanks

Thank you! that would be awesome if I could get rid of the simulated wood grain. Now all I have to do is figure out how to take the trim off the doors, and the shift **** in order to make it a uniform look.

Thanks again!

Gloss black doesn't look so bad either.

i.m.o. i would think it would be better to put an aftermarket trim because if you scratch it would look like crap and you could see old color.

I'd go with the 3M Carbon Fiber stuff. I got a sample of it and it is some cool stuff.

Hoping to try it out on the hood of my 450r

OK, so I think I have decided to go with the Carbon Fiber film. I am going to buy a sample peace and test it on my door because it is the cheapest thing to replace. I will post the pics as soon as I am done to show how it looks, and then you guys can tell me if it looks better than the simulated wood grain. If the process is simple enough and easy to apply I will finish the rest of the cabin. I’ll try to order the film sometime soon to let everyone see the results.
