New Engine Lineup For 2011+ F-150s?

I am hearing alot of talk about the new Ecoboost engine's for the 2011 F-150's. The 3.5L Turbo that give's V8 power with V6 mpg. It sounds promising, But I am hearing so much about the Ecoboost V6 that I am starting to worry if Ford is going to put a new V8 in the F-150. I have heard lots of rumors about the 5.0L but I haven't heard a confirmation yet. You could call me a traditionalist, I personally would rather have a N/A V8 vs a Turbo V6 even if it cost me a little extra at the pump. And I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels this way.

I am planning on buying a 2011 F-150 in the next 6 months to year. And I've done quite a bit of research online trying to learn what I can about this truck and its new engine offerings. This is how I have managed to put it together so far.

3.7L Ti-VCT - V6 will serve as a base engine in late 2011 as 2012 models. Not sure if its power numbers will falter any from what it puts out in the 2011 Mustangs.

3.5L Ecoboost V6 - I've heard rumors that this engine might put out 340hp and 340lb/ft of torque, and I've also heard it might produce 400hp and 400lb/ft of torque. Seems like lots of sites are referring to this as a premium engine, I assume that means it will be like a top offering amongst new engines.

5.0L Ti-VCT V8 - I haven't heard to much about this engine except that it is highly rumored to serve in the 2011+ F-150's and that Ford is testing this engine amongst all models of F-150 from XL all the way to Platinum. The most recent new's I got about it was on this website. The forum I read stated that the 5.0L would offer 350hp and 400lb/ft of torque in F-150 guise.

6.2L Boss V8 - I've been on a few sites that seem to suspect this engine will play a role specific to high end F-150's such as the Harley Davidson F-150, and The Platinum F-150's and of course the Raptor. I've only heard from one source that it would be offered in all models of F-150.

So far that's what I know. And I apologize for this forum being so long. And if you have taken the time to read threw all of it I would really appreciate it if anyone that might have anything a little more concrete than I do or anyone that's just curios like me would share information. I am somewhat distressed about this, As I have been planning since I was a kid to buy a brand new F-150 (I'm a Long term Ford man) And It was always my dream to get a V8 F-150. It would be nice to get a 350hp 5.0L over a 310hp 5.4L. I've even considered buying an F-250 next year just to get the 6.2L If the F-150's no longer come with V8's. But everything seems kind of uncertain now. But thanks for any reply's.

I agree with you. I'd take a N/A 5.0 over a turbo/supercharged V-6 ANYDAY!

I have an 09 Platinum which I am very pleased with. Last week while having my truck serviced a Raptor 6.2 with 4:10 rear axle arrived at the dealership. The dealer had it checked out and ask that I take it for a drive. I was very impressed with the truck, but the engine didn't seem to perform much different than my 09 5.4.

Add 8" of width and the Raptors HEAVY rubber/wheels and may be different?

Maybe the traction controll was holding you back, I put 20k miles on an 09 FX4 before I got my 6.2 Raptor and the difference is day and night. I have pulled out to pass and hit the governor before I realized how fast I was going. I think the 6.2 drinks too much gas for Ford to offer it in regular F150's but it would be a blast in a FX2 setup.

Hopefully I never go to that dealer when passing through OK. I'd hate to have people "test driving" my truck while it is in for service!

I had Two Ford Engineers from Detroit tell me at a trade show that the 5.0 was going to be the work horse engine and that they were going to offer the 4.6 for at least on more year. Also the Eco Boost is going to happen, and the 3.7, and 6.2 as an option. Not sure where the 6.2 will fall in, might be part of a max tow package idea. Chevy has a 6.0 offering for 1/2 tons, so it is somewhat likely Ford will follow suit and have it in the line up, but don't plan on seeing many on dealer's lots, because you will probably have to order it.

I'm glad you made this comment. I'm not convinced that the 6.2 is the powerhouse Ford wants us to believe it is. I drove a 11 F250 6.2 with 4.30's and walked away wondering why my Gryphon tuned 5.4 felt stronger. Makes me wonder, is Ford playing games in the "as delivered" tune, like they do with GT500's?

6.0 was not available in 2010 Gms never mind 2011s. In 07-09 it was available but then mid 09 they offered both 6.0L or 6.2L in max tow form. But your point is right, in that they offer a larger engine although try to find on on the lot!

The F250 is considerably heavier for starters, and it's detuned for longevity and hard work. Try driving a Raptor to get an idea of it's power.

I was at the Ford Dealer show in Detroit last May. We drove the 2011 F150 trucks.

5.0 & a 3.5 Eco Boost Turbo. I begged every engineer to tell me HP on the 3.5, no one would, all anyone would tell me was that the 3.5 EB in the F150 will put out more HP than it does in the SHO. That tells me it will come in around 400. It felt stronger than my superchipped 2010 5.4 F150.

That sounds like its a go for the 5.0 and the Eco Boost. If the V6 is going to be around 400 HP does this mean that the 5.0 will be close to this figure as well? I'm ready to order as soon as we get a site up to build 2011's. I've heard rumors that the build sites will be up around the end of August. Has anyone heard any definate dates yet?

I love the power in my 2011 6.2L. It's night/day when compared the the 5.4L F250. 3:73 rear

Last I heard, these are the dates:
8/27/2010 is the order cutoff date for 2010
8/30/2010 is the first order date for 2011 model F-150's
11/22/2010 is the job #1 date for the 2011 model F-150
