ford hard tonneau cover

its time for me to upgrade to a 2010 and i seen one online that was exactly what i wanted. red candy metallic tinted fx4. when i got there, i noticed it had a ptm hard tonneau cover and bedliner. caught me off gaurd, especially since the cover had a ford emblem key cover. it was on top, not on the back edge, about 4 inches from the back.
is this actually a ford cover or could it be a different brand that bought rights to put the ford emblem on the key cover? i didnt think ford made hard tops.

Ford offers a bed cover option, as they tried to get me to add one to my truck. I declined, because the options was $1400, and I much prefer the Jason Rage covers.

this one wasnt listed anywhere on the sticker or a dealer add-on sticker. the salesman just told me it was $1100 for the cover and bedliner.
i've never had hard top, i like my soft covers, but its on there and actually looks good.

Hard tops are very nice, and tend to look more stylish, but you do lose some functionality when compared to a soft top.

the ptm hard covers are listed in the Ford accessory catalog, my guess is that most likely somebody like Leer or ARE makes them for Ford. Just like we already know that Bakflip makes the Ford hard folding cover which is also in the accessory catalog.

Here is a pic of my 2010 Lariat. 6 days old with the hard cover. The price on it was an additional $1700 dollars from my dealer. I told him that I would not take the truck with the hardcover and that I wanted it removed. The owner said the truck had to leave with the hardcover on it, since it was a package that was delivered to him specifically with that truck, and the black leather. BS or not, I told him to make the $1700 disappear in the overall price and the cover WOULD still go with the truck

awesome looking truck, and it looks to be the same cover. all i got from the dealer so far was their first price. and it was off by about $1000 from what i was expecting. hopefully next week i can post up pics it. (im still not totally convinced that it will fit into my garage, height wise. my door has 79" and the book says its 76.2". thats getting a little close for my liking.

How do you like the bed cover? Have any pictures of it opened? How long does it take to take it off/on?

I had bought my 2010 Screw with the dealer issued hard cover on it. The only thing I didn't like about it was the gap that was at the back between the gate and the cover. I negotiated the price due to the cover tho. I ended up selling the cover and bought an ARE since it fitted more flush with the gate. It takes me about 5-10 mins to remove it and about the same to put it back on, and at the same time it also takes 2 people to remove it. Though its light, its too wide for just one person to remove. I don't really haul nothing thats taller than the bed (mostly flooring materials) so its usually on majority of the time. It does make it look classy, which is what I like!

Ford brand hard tonneau Q & A

I just bought a 11' XLT and have been doing some research on the hard tonneaus. I've figured out that Undercover makes the Ford brand tonneau that the dealerships sell. The only differences between buying one from Ford and buying an undercover elsewhere are, undercover produces a special one for ford that has style lines that match the hood of the f150, there is a ford emblem on it if you buy it from ford, and ford says the lock can be keyed to your truck key.

Now I talked to my dealer who said that they don't key the lock there, I will have to take it to a lock smith. On the other hand, one of service guys seemed to think that the lock comes with the tumblers "open" and what ever key you insert and turn first will allow the tumblers to program themselves to it.

Has anyone bought this top from ford and know how the lock and key system works?

Don't know anything about the Ford cover and don't know that you have made up your mind but I have had an ARE cover on 2004 SCrew and just ordered another for the Platinum I have on order. The lock on the model I had locks and unlocks along with the doors of the truck. You get a key for the cover but in thr nearly 10 years that I had the truck I never used the key. The ARE models with the power lock are a little pricey ($1200-$1400) but the convenience is worth a lot in my opinion. Also I highly recommend thr BedRug to go along with the ARE top. Exactly the same material. Makes a huge trunk.

The only problem I have with these 1-piece hard covers is that you can't operate the tailgate without first opening the cover. Otherwise, you can't beat the look of them, that's for sure.
