Why 5.4L vs 5.7 and 6.2L ??????????
I'm curious, if Chevy offers the 6.2L in it's 1500s, ?, and Dodge offers the 5.7L, in it's 1500s, then why do all of you choose the F150's relatively underpowered 5.4L? Durability? Personally, I would want the HP. Just curious, no offense intended. Personally, I grew-up in an Olds dealership and was thus, anti-Ford. But, I now prefer Ford. Mind you, I didn't even bother to test-drive or even browse Dodge or Chevy. Both my last two Ford F250 purchase, 2008 model and 2011 model were impulsive. Thankfully, no regrets on the 2011!!!

In all honesty, not that many people buy trucks and actually use them for their intended purpose. I know I don't, I just like trucks and have 4 wheel drive available if I ever need it. So the 5.4 is enough to get me around and haul stuff every now and then. I don't need to go 0-60 in 4.5 seconds, if I did I would have kept my GTO.

Keep in mind that an F-250 has more weight, thus it's no real difference between your F-250 and an F-150 with the 5.4L. As for getting the 6.2L in an F-150, it'll be available on more trim levels next year. I'm chugging along with a 2v 4.6l. Sure it's slow, but it still hauls, tows, and gets from a-b reliably. Normal driving rarely goes above 2,500 rpm unless I'm passing.

The bigger the motor the more gas. For some of us guys we dont need tire smoking horsepower. My 5.4 does just fine . I was even happy with my 01 V6 5 speed. Went to ft worth this weekend and i got 18.5 mpg cruising down I20 at 75mph.

There is more to a truck than just the motor...
Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind more power, and would have bought a f-150 with the 6.2 if it was available. But overall, the F-150 is the nicest truck on the market IMO. It isn't the fastest, but my choice to buy a 4 door 4x4 wasn't based on the one with the fastest 0-60 times. It is always fun to have the bragging rights of the fastest truck on the block, but lets be real here...most 4 door v6 family cars will outrun all of these trucks. So being the "fastest" doesn't mean a whole lot when you step back and look at the big picture.
For what I do, the 5.4 has more than enough power. I can tow my 6000lb trailer without any issues, and still get double digit MPG's while driving the most comfortable and well built truck on the market. Again, I would love to have another 100hp under the hood...but in reality, it isn't needed.

Sure the 5.3 has more HP than the 5.4, but the 5.4 has more torque. Which is what I want in a truck. I'd rather be able to pull 11,000lbs than get from 0-60 in 4 seconds. My 5.8 Windsor only has 220hp but it has 310ft lbs of torque. I'll tell ya what though it VERY rarely ever goes above 1800-1900RPMs getting up to speed. Even when I'm towing I don't go above 2300 RPMs. So I don't think the 5.4 has to work too awful hard to move a truck around.

There are a lot of different perceptions about trucks and their abilities, but it all comes down to personal opinion. I for one am that guy that bought the 4.6L back in 03 and thought it was a huge mistake as I was used to my dads 02 5.4L. So when I bought my 09 i went right for the 5.4. If they offered the 6.2 at the time, I most likely would have bought that though. However, for me it is ford or nothing. I cant accept the bailout recieved by the other top brands while ford held its ground and graciously said "thanks, but no thanks"... and non dimestic brands are not my cup of tea either.
I have always been happy with my fords... not so happy with my chevies (99 Tahoe POS, tranny blowing hunk of crap). IMO, Ford offers the best 1/2Ton truck on the market (minus the TCS and stability controls that can be turned off). The 5.4 has a good deal of power and has enough speed and drive in it to loose you license in too. The towing capacity has more than enough for the average weekend warrior and again IMO, have the nicest interior layout. I seriously considered going to a 250 Diesel, but the additional coin wasnt in the cards and I didnt have the need for that much capacity.
Even though they are trucks, you really have to consider the economy side of these things as well. Something truck owners didnt have to do so much in the past. But with the price of fuel and the tax grab pinch all our GOVs are hiking, you need to do what you can. However, I am still a firm advocate of more power. I too also beleive that bigger engines produce less strain, less fuel consumption as it has to work less and a better driving experience. I do also believe that 450hp is a littlemore than "needed" for everyday use... but would be nice to have.

This is my first post to this board, so I thought I would chime in on this thread.
I bought a 2010 F150 XLT Max tow / Max payload this year and could not be happier. I looked at the Chev Silverado 6.2L, look impressive with the bigger engine, but the big show stopper was the payload at only 1812 lbs max (when optioned I suspect will be less). Bigger heavier engine = less payload. My F150 with the 5.4L is 2174 Lbs as optioned.
To me payload is important since when I load her up, it is usually 2000 lbs or a bit more. Maybe a 3/4 ton or 1 ton would be better, but price on the 2011 SD with the 6.2L was not a sweet as the F150.
