crappy paint job
#2
Most factory paint jobs have some orange peel or texture to them if you really look close. It isn't like a re-spray where everything is sanded between coats with 2500 or 3500 to leave it all looking like glass, but it shouldn't be too bad.
I would have preferred my new truck not to have a dent though... from the inside out
Right under the drivers side tail light there is a small bump where something has hit it from the inside out... I'm not sure if it is accessible if the light is removed or if the panel had a ding in it when the bed was assembled or what, but it's there.
I also have my first rock chip on the front of it at 1300 miles.... making me consider more seriously the 3M or llumar clear bra kit:o

Both my 2010 F-150 and 2011 Mustang GT have orange peel. They are both dark blue, so maybe that is the reason. I have noticed that Ford's paint quality seems to have diminished in the last few years. I also have a 2010 Chrysler 300C that does not have near the orange peel issue. Everything else about the Fords is superior though.

I was looking at a bunch of other brands. They have the same paint quality, textured look. So its not just me. I also noticed some missing paint just inside the wheel well. There is red primer but no paint. I havn't looked any other new trucks to see if there is missing paint there also.

I'm quite disappointed in the paint on my 2010 as well. I have a fisheye/bubble on the bottom of the tailgate, an area on the bed near the bumper where the primer shows through and significant orange peel. The dealer offered to fix it under warranty, but I'm hesitant to repaint parts of a new truck for fear that it won't match.
I'm ****, and it's a black truck - and I know I shouldn't expect perfection - but it is worse than any other vehicle I've owned.
