Could it be any more annoying?

I'm coming up on 7,500 miles on my 2010 F150. Now...every time I start the truck the display blocks my view of all info on the drivers info center and displays a phrase like "change oil soon". Even after I reset the thing it seems like it comes on randomly as I drive.

Few things could be more annoying to me than a reminder that I don't need that blocks my access to info I do need and forces me to do something to clear it out of the way.

I don't know what ford was thinking on this one. Perhaps they assume that nothing but soccer moms that don't know when to change the freaking oil are buying F150's now...but this is a real pain in the ****. I did a brief look through the manual to find a way to disable this "feature" but I found nothing. I searched on the forum and found nothing either.

Does anyone know if this "feature" can be disabled?

Thanks. I'm gonna go get a beer, go out to the driveway, and cuss this feature some more.

Mine never did that. As long as you change the oil and reset the oil life counter, it won't do that.

How are you resetting it? Make sure you are actually resetting the "oil life" in the menu.

I'm just hitting the reset button on the dash.

I wonder if it's because I activated that sync system "vehicle health report" a while back. It just now hit me that I did that. I did it really just to see what the report would look like.

I don't want/need the reminder to come on at all...ever. I can keep track of when I need the oil changed...this feature is a real pain in the ****. I'll go into the vehicle health report website thing and try to kill it there.

Better then my old GMC... had to pump the brakes forever to get it to reset the oil life monitor.

That isn't how you do it. You have to go through the options in the menu and when it comes up to the oil life thing hold reset...it's something close to that.

It's not the vehicle health report. It's not listed in the owners manual under "oil change" or anything to do with fluids or maintenance. It's listed under the Instrument Cluster section.

I found the procedure to reset it in the instrument cluster section as well. It's still a pain in the *** though because I have to go perform the "reset procedure" to get it to shut up. Then after I change the oil I'll have to reset it again to have it start from an accurate point.

So far there doesn't appear to be a way to disable it. This is an ignorant feature.

Does the "change oil soon" message only come on at 7500 mile intervals if not reset before that time? I have 21,500 miles on mine and have never had the "change oil" reminder appear. But I change the oil every 5000 miles.

Has the oil been changed at all in these 7,500 miles?

The official schedule calls for 7,500 mile intervals. The computer works off of that...when you get close it starts flashing the message at you.

Good call. I had to dig down through the setup menu to get to the "percentage oil life remaining" then hit and hold the Reset button to get it to reset to 100% oil life remaining. It was on 1% as I'm so close to the recommended oil change interval.

Sheesh. I'd like to find the engineer that built that in and take away his pocket protector for a week.

I've had mine on a 5,000 schedule, so I guess that's why mine never went nutso.

If I recall correctly, mine was set at 5,000 from the factory, even though 7,500 is recommended. I never noticed it until it went off one day and I wasn't even near 7,500, so I had to figure out how to work it and set it best I could guess so it would go off near the 7,500 mark.

Perhaps they fixed the factory setting for the 2010MY.

My 10 was on 5k. It is a good default in case the truck sees heavy use I am guessing. I am old school and keep track of my own use and mileage. I know if I towed hard for 2k miles or highway commuted 6k miles etc. I set the computer to 7,500 since I am commuting 1000+ miles a week right now. I change the oil every other month 6-8 weeks.

If you think it is ignorant then why are you going to again reset to be "accurate". Just change to max time/mileage interval and reset it when appears. I actually find it useful since it is based on mileage and/or time frame. On my wife's car I change it based on time since she never hits the mileage. It is easier for her just to tell me when it comes up instead of me checking every weekend.
