Wow sorry i overlooked this question for about a year...

To get the seat to latch back you must have the lower portion of the seat in the same position as when it was opened. The striker bolt that holds the seat back up slides up and down as the lower seat is folded.

Sorry to bring up and old thread but this one helped me out a lot with modding my seat latch. I did pretty much the same thing as the original post but didn't take the latch off the seat and I added some heatshrink around the cable. Using a dremmel with a cut off wheel, I laid some big shop towels down to protect the seat and then cut the top lip off. It honestly took longer to get the seat down for the first time than it did to cut the lip and crimp the wire in place! Overall it took maybe 30 minutes and cost like 4 bucks.

no need to apologize for reviving a old thread, there are many people who have these trucks that have no clue the seat even folds down.

It was the same way for me.. The driver side was easy to fold down but the passenger side took me for ever..

Never knew the seat folded down either. How much room is there?

there is a little room back there, the area looks larger than what it is when you fold the back down, what you have to keep in mind is that once the seat bottom is folded up the back of the seats moves back a little so you loose a little room.. I kept my remington 870 back there during duck season and a raincoat and set of jumper cables all the time.

Yea there isn't a massive amount of room back there but definitely enough to make this mod worth it. I keep some bungee cords and jumper cables back there and am working on installing a 1000W inverter. If you are willing to spend the time making a custom sub box you could hide a sub and amp back there as well.

I did this mod yesterday with the cable but I added a key ring loop to pull on instead of pulling up on the actual cable.... I don't know how often I will use them but for a $8.00 mod I will take it...

Nice write up

My truck...

My apologizes I am a newby F-150 owner... will this mod work for any of the old seats that have the super cab with the second row full back seat? I have a 07' I'd love to be able to hide some of the smaller very expensive tools I have. Theres a little cloth "tab" sticking up from the back of the seat that doesn't seem to have a purpose...

The latches are only on 2009-2014 screw cabs, sorry. All scabs from 2004-14 are bolted in and do not fold down and pain to get out the first time.
